C'mon now Charlie!! This is your time of the year. This is YOUR weather..

Seriously, it has just been miserable here lately. We are about the hottest place in the country right now......right in there with Phoenix. 105 for the past 2 days. All the grass is dying, trees are in distress from lack of moisture. Electric bills going UP UP UP.

And the worst part to me (besides having to work outside in it everyday).....is that my son is out of school for the summer and I can't enjoy it with him doing anything outside besides swimming. And by the time it cools back off again.....school is back in session.

Charlie if I had the available free time like you........i'd be far, far away from here in that truck camper of yours, somewhere cooler and much prettier...., prob in Alaska!!!

Only two problems with that idea. No more truck camper and no $$$.

In the category of...."ONE MORE THING TO WORRY ABOUT" .......
Talked to a customer in Tulsa last night. They are having a rash of tailgate thefts, off of pickup trucks! What is that all about??
Easy pickins but.....? Scrap metal sales doesn't seem likely. To easy to trace back. My brain can't come up with anything else.

It's so hot that we finally turned on the A/C... if it stays triple digits much longer, I'm gonna have to fix the A/C in the truck as well!

I installed tailgate locks on both trucks for that very reason, RJ - they are a high theft item because of high replacement cost and the regularity with which they get damaged.

It's funny you two should mention this.......because coincidently I have a trial on August 5th (my birthday..whoo hoo) I have to testify in regarding a tailgate theft. It wasn't a theft, it was a full blown carjacking.

Anyway......last year in April 07....a Lady came out of the grocery store with a few items and placed them in the cab of her 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab along with her purse. Suspect approached her with a COLT PYTHON and demanded her keys. Of course, she complied. He drove off in her truck with his accomplice following in the original suspect's truck. I came to the scene as quick as I could to gather info and make the report for her.

Well as it turned out.........she had 2 days prior put a tracking feature on her family's cell phone plan (to keep up with her teenage daughter and her husband) I took her to her house and she logged into her computer and it told us exactly where the truck was at......in Old East Dallas....with her cell phone still in the purse in the truck. I switched radio channels and directed some undercover officers to the area. They couldn't locate the truck immediately due to overgrown weeds and the fences, but the helicopter could. But, the helicopter spooked the susps......so the vehicle got occuppied and a chase ensued into South Dallas. Helicopter and marked units and along with undercover officers followed it to where the susps bailed out. They were caught a couple of streets over. I went to the scene with the complainant who quickly identified the main susp.

After more investigation.......the guy had never had a record prior to that Aggravated Robbery F1. He did all of that, just so that he could steal her tailgate off of the 1999 Dodge Ram. We recovered the tailgate and pistol back at his house. The lady's vehicle was released back to her unharmed (with tailgate).

We would have probably never got him had it not been for the track on the cell phone!

side note.....the susp almost got shot when he was running from the scene of the truck. The officers that caught up to him saw him reaching for something in his pocket (gun?) and not complying immediately with their orders. He was trying to ditch the lady's car keys which he had "instinctively" grabbed when he bailed out of the truck.

By the way, the evidence in the above case is so overwhelming....he is sunk. But the DA offered him 20 years, so he wants to take his chances in court that he can get a lesser sentence since he had no prior record.

He is also trying to say he didn't use the gun......that the lady just gave him the keys. (Robbery instead of Agg. Robbery)

We'll see!

I didn't realize that you sold the Truck camper. Course you could always buy a new set of tires for the TT and put it back on the road. But then again..$$$.

Tailgate thefts have always been a major problem. They are incredibly expensive for what they are and since they are easily damaged, the black market for them is huge.
