Trans problem w/my 96

when i got the truck every time i would start to go i would let out the clutch and some where between floor and all the way out i would hear a pop sound. i was blaming it on the front end needing rebuilt. today i went into town made one stop at the store got back in the truck and started to go heard the same pop, i was waiting on a car to pass and could tell the the clutch wasn't disengaging the trans and it was still pulling. the car passed and i went. i had to go about a mile down the road to the feed store, while driving it was hard to get from gear to gear. almost like i had to float the gears. pull into the feed store and pulling into my spot i had to force it out of gear felt like the clutch wasn't even pushed in, but it was. Now i get what i need and start the truck back up and it won't go into gear. i had to push it to get it to fall into gear back out of my spot and stop force it out of R and start rolling forward work it into 2nd and start to pull out of the parking lot. see some cars comming so i push the clutch and everything seems to be back to normal, came right out of gear and went right back in to pull out into traffic. the drive home everything seemed to work fine.

Any Ideas. Clutch, throw out bearings, slave cylinder? what?

I dont know alot about transmissions, but i only have the two trucks between the two of us right now, she wrecked her car so i need this truck running as a daily driver.

Thanks,
Eric

If you can get someone to cycle the clutch for you while you are under the truck, you might be better able to pinpoint the source of the pop. It could be the release bearing hanging up on the input shaft sleave or more serious as the center section of the clutch coming loose or being cracked. Unfortunately, there isn't any really good way to visually inspect it without pulling the tranny.

sounds kinda like the spring hub in the center of the disk is coming apart I had one do it to me a spring fell out and got wedged inbetween the flywheel and clutch disk could'nt disengage it.

Ok i have a SB clutch on my 04. i have been told that valair makes a good one for my 96 and its should be cheaper than the SB. i don't plan on going crazy with the 96 maybe like 400hp and that should be about it. and with the wedding i need to pinch as many pennies as i can.

thanks,
Eric
