Wiring Harness Question

Wiring Harness Question
I have a 2006 2500 4x4 with the stock wiring harness. This came with the truck and includes both a OEM 4 pin and 7 way adapter. I recently bought a boat and mytrailer has a 5-way plug. I assume the 5th plug is for the surge brakes. My question is, can I use the 7 way plug and get a 7 way to 5way adapter for the trailer? Or do need to get a new 5 way plug and wire it in? I am currently using my 4-way and leaving the 5th wire unhooked.
I thought the surge brakes needed to have the 5th wire hooked up to the backup lights so they "release" when backing up. I know the 7-way has the electronic brake wire, but I don't have these on the trailer. If I need the 5-way, then what's the easiest way to wire to the back-up lights?
Been lurking on the board for awhile now and finally have a question to post. Thanks in advance.

Yes you need an adaptor from 7 to the flat 5 prong set up the best one I found are from Wesbar part #685359 comes with 18" of cord on it. And the fifth prong is wired into the rev light circuit so that you can back up with surge disc brakes. List price for harness is $13.95 Happy boating!
