WINEGRAD SATALITE SYSTEMS
I would like to hear from anyone that has experience with any type of rv satalite system. I am going to add one to our rv, right now I am kind of leaning toward the WINEGARD RD-9046 portable system. Any suggestions on different dishes, equipment I might find usefull, ect. are very much welcome. Thanks

I purchased a used dish and LMB off Ebay, keep it on a tripod with the camper and 100ft of coax wire. I simply take the reciever from the house with me (don't forget remote) and hook it up to the second dish when we travel. This way I don't need to pay for a second reciever, and it is not that hard to unhook every time we travel.
The 100 feet of wire is something that I have found to be invaluable, you never know how far you need to move the dish to find a clear spot between trees.
If seen campers with the dish mounted on top of their rigs need to change spots because the dish can't get reception. For me it is a lot easier to move the dish rather then the trailer.

Scuba man is right on about the portable dish. I have a permanent mount and try it first - - works probably 75% of the time. The other 25% require pulling out the portable. I use a swim tube (with a LARGE fill spout) around the stand that I fill with water. Holds the stand in place perchance some dog or person brushes up against it - - it does not hold it in place with a bear. In fact, I think the sucker fell in love with it.

I have DSS in all my rooms at the house, got a good deal. Anyway, I just take one receiver and a dish with me. A little pvc pipe or fence pipe and some tweeking for azimuth and elevation and it is pay per view or whatever I want(just like at home). Gotta love it when a plan comes together. ;D

I also do the same as scuba. I bought a spare dish off of e-bay and also a tripod for it. Bought it all for less than 40 or 50 dollars. I keep looking for a cheap reciever so that I can just take my card with instead of the whole reciever.

I bought the trac-vision type that does not work traveling.. I think I paid something like $1290 for it. The wife and I go to NASCAR races and I got tired of rolling up when we get ready to leave in a rain storm. Now I don't have to. Cost a little more but to me, worth it.

chief3510,
I have an RCA DSS receiver that has been on the shelf for a couple of years. I bought it brand new and it worked great for the year that I used it. PM me if you are interested. Keep thinking about throwing it on aBay, but never get around to it. No cards in it.

Thanks for the offer Catsfan. But, I think I am going to wait. Done camping for the season and I might get a new reciever for the house. Thinking about the TIVO thing.

Tivo is the best thing since sliced bread ;D
I just wish I had another one to take with me when I'm in my fiver!
100 feet of coax is a minimum, also a good sharp pruning saw...never know when you might have to do a little arbor care :P
