Why did I wait so long

Why did I wait so long
to buy a diesel to pull my travel trailer
I took my 1st 400 mile round trip this weekend with my 2005 3500 Dodge Ram quad cab with a 5.9 cummins and all I can say is this truck is great for pulling my 34' 8500 lb travel trailer I used the tow haul but it still went into OD and I used the cruise control when I could there was no down shifting on hills & I don't feel the camper back there. I use to pull it with 2500 '02 Silverado 6.0 gasser w/4:10 gears it was ok but nothing compared to this truck.
in 2 weeks we leave for a 1,000 mile round trip and I can't wait
I'm a happy camper

Just a plain ole guy
I heard the same question from two coworkers. They both started with 30 foot TT's and tried pulling them across the US with little Toyota's. One called from on the road, 10 miles into his first pull, just to tell me that I was right.

Just be careful leaving it in O/D, i was on my way back from the Smoky Mountain National Park and on pretty flat road with cruse on with a 9,500* lb TT and half way back my torque converter started quiverin like a sum-buck, so i kicked it out and replaced the converter with a tripple disc.

why is there a concern about OD being bad? on my '05 the T/C locks in OD always, and when in Tow/haul mode, it locks in 2,3 also.
if you've got a locking torque converter as the original poster does, like mine, you're better off in O/D....

My old truck was a 99 with a 47re and it wasn't stock, i just done a few little things and added quite a bit of torque and it was just a little to much for a stock converter to handle.
At least this is what i found with my truck, and everybody i talked to on this and other forums said that a modded truck is hard on a stock converter when pulling in O/D.
Now if i get into some hills i always kick it out of O/D

T/H is all I use and it works just fine, I cant ever remember using Overdrive off button, my trailer is just shy of 36 ft and loaded is around the 12k lb mark. you should have no problem at all, have a safe trip. enjoy

My son is dodge mech. He says the 47RE OD is weakest link. Don't tow in it heavy. But the 48RE is a differnt OD and can handle it. And since you can't lock it out, it better!
