yeah I think 8 -24.5 tires on the back of that semi would have more traction than 4- 265/75s

If I read his post right, first he had to pull it out from under the trailer, huh, with the wheels locked?

When you go to pull an 18 wheeler with a mid sized truck, the first thing to go is the wheels start spinning. Ran wreckers for years. So you have to lift on the 18 wheeler to get traction.

My dad and I were hauling lime sludge from a sewer plant with a 90 CTD 4x4 and 16' Stolh dump trailer. We had to use 4 low to climb the hill out the main entrance and some small back roads. The truck and trailer weighs 10,300 empty at the scales, I don't know what the sludge weighed. The 14,000 lb hydraulic dump could'nt raise the bed to dump it, we had to use the skid steer to lift and assist the dump bed.
I figured we had 16-18000 lbs of sludge plus the 10,300= 26-27000 lbs

I know it's not a lot compared to other guys, but the feel of the CTD working is pricless, pure adrenial.

I guess that's Ford installs Cummins "B" in their medium and heavy duty commercial trucks. They love that feeling!!!!

Last week I took a load of trees 31320lbs. before it rained on it for 8 hours ( I know the weight police will have a field day with this! For the police the rear axle weight was 7120lbs. I know I know! it's a 2500 probably like 50000lbs. over on the axle!) to Louisville (about 300 miles). You talk about listening to a Big Cummins moan! It's music to my ears! When I picked up my trailer it didn't feel to bad it took off alright and stopped good so on the way I was feeling pretty good about it then I got to the scales at the Pilot station and she handed me the slip and I said is this mine? They will do anything you need but don't expect to get 20 mpg while doing it. I got 9.2mpg on the way up.

I'll win no prize with my truck loaded with limestone dust halfway up the back window while pulling my backhoe but how many of you guys feel your truck runs better after a hard pull. I might be nuts but I alway seem to think it runs better a hard workout.

I know what you mean, Valkyrie. If I hammer the **** out of my truck, then drive normal it seems like EGTs are lower Not just 20 degrees or so, I mean about 100.

The most I have pulled is about 12.5K with our new GN dump. The rock place's exit is up hill, boy did the tranny love that The tranny temp almost looke like a pyro on that climb! But, once the TC locked in (even with the slipping), it was ready to go. I absolutely LOVE pulling that GN, it gives the ol' bird a chance to stretch its legs once in a while.
