Makes a lightweight out of my 10,040 lb 5th wheel...

 

The most I ever pulled was was 7.5 ton of rock, but the empty truck and trailer weighed in at just under 10K, so that's about 25K. This was with a stock truck and slipping TC. I agree with 1320, as long as the operator understands how to tow safely, it doesn't put anyone else at risk. Stopping was no problem with that much weight, the trailer brakes did all the work.

 

I've weighed in a 31320lbs before it rained on all those trees. I figure around 34,000lbs. Grossed 30,000lbs for about 30,000 miles on the truck in my sig. It was hard on 5 speeds and clutches. With the PM3 on 7 it pulled it pretty good, stock it took a loooooong time to get going!

P.S. I knew the weight police would get in on this!

I came in at 33,800 pounds, 72 ft long with two trailers.

First trailer had dual tandems, rear trailer had a pair of 7K axles and I have a Pacbrake with a brakesmart controller.

Power at that time was the VA 3.2 and an old 6 level EZ. Southbend FE

As per the folks at the scales...not overweight on the axles, not out of safety compliance with brakes on all axles and E brake.

However, I did exercise a lot of extra time and care driving. 10 mpg at 65.

I think the mother in law wins though.

We usually haul in 30,000's for total weight truck, trailer and load when we're hauling cattle. Completely stock truck, all of them have been. I had a load the other day weighed in at 36,740. Equipment though I hauled a John Deere track loader with a backhoe that weighed somewhere around 24,000 so added to the truck and trailer should have been around that 40,000. Enough I didn't want to know the exact weight but it was heavy. It took first gear on some hills and I'd never had to use first gear on any hill before. Hauled that through some pretty major hills though (close to the mountains), couldn't have done it without the jake though. 5 miles to the gallon in case you're wondering.

It can be done safely though you just have to know how to drive with that kind of weight and have good trailer brakes and if possible a jake. It's all about stopping. Getting going's the easy part.

 

Most I've hauled at highway speeds is my 1650 Oliver + 88" mower + trailer = about 13.5K on BUMPER and handled it fine. Didnt like 65mph but 72 was good. On friends farm have had approx. 43K behind truck (Corn). Truck DID NOT LIKE that, needs some of the weight on the truck, had bad axle wrap problems.

While all these loads take patience (sp?), the mother-in-law is by far the most difficult load to handle..

Especially as all the MILW (mother in law weight) is over the front wheels...like having two Cummins on those poor bearings. Must be hard on your alignment too.

 

hauling at around 30k is no problem. i loaded up one day and relized it was heavy. came up to a light and thought the trailer brakes were out. got back to the shop and started figuring how much weight i had. over 20k on the bumper pull 14k trailer that weighs in at 6800#s. but the sled we pulled weighed in at 44k, i didnt have any problem stoping that, starting it was tough, but doable.

 

I suppose I could say that I've pulled more than that, the Scrap Iron Express was supposed to be around 30K or so... just like gunracer, stopping that was easy, it took a bit to get going. Only pulled it 259 ft. though...

 

Wow! Someone's gonna get hurt slammin' the MIL! I forgot I've had my MIL and FIL with us on trips in our little bitty tiny wannabe crew cab (occording to Ford fans sitting around the waiting room for their latest flash) so I need to up that weight a tad. Just a tad. She's a little gal... Sits there on the back seat with her feet swingin'...

 

Everyone that is making fun of your mother in law just remember... thats gonna be your wife in 20 to 30 years....

 

I'll be alright then...I admire my MIL for how agile she is and how well she looks after herself.
I can say, shes a great gal. However, I have witnessed a few that aren't so stealth or agile.

 

Doesn't bother you putting innocent people out on the road in possible danger pulling loads like that with a stock truck? Well before you over amp and arch out. You dont know know any other facts about it . you dont know even if i had it on the hiway or parking lot permit or any other facts about it and i never said . but i did have to drive it about 1/4 mile to weight it. and also how do you know what bothers me ?
