I got farm tags on my stuff... Im in oklahoma, which means that if you have farm plates on anything you can drive it without a special license. I have a pete 379 day cab semi with a farm plate and no cdl, i can pull whatever i want as long as i say i am less than 150 miles from the farm doing farm work.

I have a class A cdl without air brakes and pull a 40 ft gooseneck with a 4500 dodge. I was told by mr. dot man in the black and white car that anything over 32 ft must have cdl no matter what it is used for also just had to put dot numbers and farm name on truck that hauls dozer. dot officers are strict it is way better safe than sorry been there done that.

Farm tags here. Mr. DOT here tells me I can pretty much haul what ever I want, as long as it is farm related. I have a class 3 restricted farm license and haul a 25' GN loaded down with 24,000 lbs of mink feed.

thats what i understand, i even called up the dmv the other day and they confirmed it. I said
"do i need a cdl to drive my pete and 53' flatbed?"..
Him: "YES. Wait, do you have a farm tag?"
Me: "yes"
Him: "you can pull whatever you want as long as it is within 150 miles of your farm without a cdl

you need a class A if its over 26k combo in most states has nothing to do with length its all about the weight according to FMCSA.. some states its if your trailer is over 10k.. Check with your state for the regs, up until July i used to deal with the DOT all the time..

If your truck/trailer combo qualifies as a vehicle that requires a CDL, why not just go and get one? It's not that big of a deal and it's something beneficial to have. Not to mention the peace of mind you'll have when traveling from state to state, wondering if you need one or not.

Here in CT I have a Class D which lets me drive anything that doesn't require a CDL (up to 26K). I also have the motorcycle and fire apparatus endorsements.

Well, around here, it's close to 2 grand to get a Class A CDL so I would call that a big deal!! I do believe beginners would get a lot of useful info and training but as a person who has gone through the school of hard knocks/experience already....WOW, that's a lot of money and time off of work to go to a truck driving school for my 30' 5th wheel. (of course that varies depending on the 26k combo or 10k rule).
