What truck can pull a 35K gooseneck-LEGALLY?

Hello,

Just wondering if anyone can help me?

I need to haul pallets of rock salt and would love a trailer (gooseneck flatbed) that can handle 25K net. I found a 35K GVWR gooseneck flatbed trailer(7,500 lb. trailer) with a max pin weight of around 6K. What truck would you go with to haul this trailer/load?

Thank you,

Joe

Single axle highway tractor, or at least a medium duty truck.

If going with a medium duty truck or single axle tractor, is a gooseneck trailer still the best choice?

I have seen heavy GVWR flatbed trailer's (35K+) that simply have a pintle hitch set up.

I guess I would like to know why a trailer manufacturer would build a 35K gooseneck trailer? It seems that a gooseneck trailer is the optimum way to pull heavy weight with a flatbed or heavy duty pick up truck.

Please let me know where I'm going wrong.

Thats combined right?

No one builds a 35k gooseneck that I have seen. The tandem axles are 12k a piece for 24k plus tongue weight. Most I have seen is 28k.

You have my attention....... Nice set up!

Tell me how you do it? What is your trailer rated at (GVWR)? What is your truck rated at (GVWR)? Isnt the truck combined gross vehicle weight rating too low for your setup?

I appreciate your feedback!

I have seen 3 10K tandem axles.
I am looking at getting a grain trailer with 2 15K tandem axils (D&K trailers)

My trailer is rated for 24K I have 2 12K axiles. DOT cares about the axil weight I can't have 14K on the rear and 10 on front and still be legal.
As long as the axils or tires are not exceeding their limits and your licenced for the weight I am fine. Same for the truck cant exceed the tires or the rear axil weight rating. I have been stopped and checked a few times and had no problums. But I have only hauled in ND SD MT.
My next truck is going to be a 4500. My 3500 handels the loads good But the 4500 has bigger brakes, axils, stronger frame so you would think if would handel it even better.

But there is no way our trucks could pull it loaded. 2 15k axles and then 6000 pounds on the truck if you could load it perfect.

What would be the ideal truck to pull a 36K gooseneck legally?

That is quite a truck!

As much as I want one, I can not justify it at this time. By the way, how much for one of those trucks?

What would be the greatest legal payload (net weight) with a 24'+5' gooseneck trailer (let's say weighs 7,000lb.) if being pulled by a:

Dodge 3500 dually pick up =

Ford F350 dually pick up =

Ford F450 dually pick up =

I'm trying to create the best approach for hauling using a vehicle that I can work year round (3500 dually or bigger pick up/flat bed) snow plowing, trailer towing, material hauling, etc.

Thank you - Joe
