What next to improve towing?

I just got my gauges in and plan on putting in the bigger banjo bolts this weekend. Next maint item is to add a pusher pump. But what then? I'm not looking to hot rod the thing, looking for reliability. Was thinking edge comp running EZ mode, but tranny is still stock. Just looking to make my pulling experience a bit less stressfull. First tow was two weeks ago, no problems. The truck has been babied with very little very lite towing. Thought about a valve body & the edge box.

Suggestions in order of importance.

Thanks!

I would suggest (in order of importance),

1 - Aftermarket valve body and torque converter

2 - Edge EZ

3 - RV 275 injectors

With this combo you will have a kick*** tow rig!!

I agree with mikelr. That's what I've got with a 6 speed and MEK. But if you're looking for reliability, my opinion is the FASS system is more worth the money than a pusher pump.

mikelr has the right idea. I would have recommended the Edge EZ as step 1 until I saw the results on a friend's truck. He's a fellow member of our Texas Boomers RVing group, and he added a Power Puck to his 1999 with the 47RE. The result - a roasted torque converter lockup clutch.

I'd deal with the tranny issues, then have at the engine!!

All that to tow a 25' Aerolite? Reliable would be leave it stock. It'll tow that trailer up most any hill in O/D right out of the box. Look what I'm towing. And with what... It's bone stock and does a great job as did my '01.5 Cummins powered 47RE/3.55. I'd stop with the gauges and run it for many moons... Just my ever so humble opinion... No one has to agree...

Hannibal, Planning in the near future to upgrade from the Aerolite and want the truck ready to pull what's looking like double the weight. I'm thinking about starting with a valve body and then save for the torque converter. Edge and then injectors afterwards. Done, other toys to spend my money on...

If I could add my .02, get a DTT setup, complete, and you will not need to mess with the engine. I wish I had done that first, did not realize how much power was lost through stock tranny. As mine is set up right now it pulls like a train, no excess smoke, and still gets 17mpg. Makes me all

Tiny, how much would I expect to spend with a 'complete DTT setup'?

I'm thinking for under $500, I could make a big difference fast with a DTT vavle body.

Probably $3500.00
But, you get what you pay for, IMHO. Read this from DTT's owner.. http://www.dieseltrans.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=136

I have close to $4k in mine, but if I had it to do over again I would spend every penny the same way. What a difference it makes in a truck, and mine is no where near what some others are running.

I have a stock 04 6sd with 4.10's and just added the XZT towing box, will be towing to Alabama a loaded horse tr.I have made this trip several times stock so after the weekend I will have a pretty good idea how this box will work on the mpg scene as well as added power.

Don't let anyone tell you that you will get more power from an after market transmnission. What you will get is better drivability from 0 to cruising speed. Once an automatic is in lockup, be it 3rd or OD the Hp is the same, period. Alot of people buy an aftermarket auto transmission thinking it will solve there power issues. The only way to solve your power issues is to add more Hp. If you add more Hp you will need a better transmission, aftermarket steps in.

Yes you will need an aftermarket transmission or components once you upgrade the motor and it is better to do the transmission first to avoid hurting the transmisson, I just want people to understand that a aftermarket transmission will not solve your power issues. It will just give you better drivability.

I don't believe Tiny was talking about added HP. I heard him refering to recovered HP...lost between the fly wheel and the rear tires...due to inefficient stock tranny. Same thing your saying, I guess. I did my full DTT first...before adding boxes or injectors and I felt a noticible increase in performance!
For some, it all that they need or want.
