Uhaul truck stop at weigh stations?

I will be moving soon from Big Pine Key to Amarillo, Texas. Using a 26 foot Uhaul with a Uhaul 6X12 trailer behind it. Do I need to stop at weigh stations? I will be going thru Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Lousiana and Texas. Not a commercial haul, just my own stuff. There is a ag inspection station in north Flordida whose sign specificly says rental trucks must be inspected, so I know about that one.
Thanks

Wrong!!!!

Although you may just get the arrow to bypass the scale, you are required to stop if you are operating a commercial vehicle of 10,000lb or more. Ask me how I know..
Actually I am a Budget truck dealer and especially with all the terrorism concerns, trucks are being watched very closely. Even a 15' truck is supposed to stop at the scales. I do agree that it is a waste of time but only until someone blows up another building with a rental truck full of explosives......

Mississippi will come get you. If you are taking I-10, Alabama does not have one. I would not play with Louisana, they can get rough on 10.

Hi Haulin', thanks for the info. Because of the I10 bridge problems at Escambia Bay, I will be taking I10 only over to US231, that north to Dothan. Spend the night there, then up to Montgomery & onto US80. US80 west to I20 near Merdian, Ms. I20 all the way to DFW then up 35w to 287 to Amarillo.

Hope I can find a motel in Dothan that has big parking lot. We will have the 26 foot Uhaul with 6X12 trailer and my '04 Ram with the bike trailer. Lots of space for one room!!! Any suggestions? Anyone?

My wife drove out last week & said 287 was not a good way to go. I'm thinking of continuing on out I20 to US84, then taking that up to Lubbock where I can get on I27. Opinion on that? Anyone live in the area or drive those roads?

Guess I will just plan on doing the weigh station thing. It'll take a minute or so, but better to err on the side of caution.

Hotels that cater to truckers will have room to park.

Take a close look at your map. I have used 287 to go to Amarillo many times, and it really is the best way to go.

You do have options on getting around most of DFW. There's a lot of traffic all the time, and rush hour is a booger. Look at taking the I635 loop to get to I35E to Denton, then Hwy 380 to 287.

I live right north of Dallas, and I have started going US 75 north to Sherman, to US 82 west to 287. You have a few miles of two lane between Gainsville and 287, but usually the traffic is not very heavy.

When are you coming thru? Give me a call and this old retired guy will buy you a cup.

Too bad you can't pull both trailers with the CTD. You'd get there quicker..

Call ahead and make sure U-haul is giving you a diesel truck. Those 24' gassers only get like 3-5 mpg....... And that's without towing!

Dodgezilla, yep, I made sure about a diesel. The dealer has two 26' on this lot now, but that doesn't mean he'll have 'em on October 10th. He PROMISED me a diesel. They may be a bit harder to rent as they come stick only. He even told me to call him a week before I want to pick it up & he'd find me a newer one. I just want one with air that works and a power port to plug in my hand held CB. Much easier to caravan when you can talk back and forth. A buddy will be driving the Uhaul/trailer for me. He owns a DuraXXX, crew cab, long bed and pulls a 31 foot Airstream, so knows how to maneuver a long rig. GOOD friend!!

Crobtex, thanks for the route suggestions. I plan to spend the second night in Canton, Texas, on I20 just east of DFW. I THINK if I pull out around 3 or 4AM the next day, I SHOULD get thru before the worst of the rush hour hits. Thanks for the offer of a cup, but I want to get on thru before traffic & old retired guys don't like to get up that early. At least this one doesn't. LOL! Maybe next time.

Rattletrap1 how do I find out what motels cater to truckers before I get there? Guess I'll just start calling.
