I pulled my Terry w/o a w/d hitch and it seemed fine. I did buck alot when hitting bumps and crossing bridges etc. I picked up a used wdh and put it on. The ride improved a ton. I never had a problem with sway in either case. There's alot of people out there that comment on how they "don't even know the trailer is there" with thier w/d set-ups. I think this is why they end up rolled over on the side of the road. No matter how you are set up, you still have to dirve the vehicle and be in controll at all times. The wdh isn't gonna s.y.a..

My Sunnybrook weights out at about 7200#. Wouldn't tow without WD, I feel it really helps.

It's kinda like tires, I never skimp on them since they are what hit the road. Feel the same way with the hitch. If I'm going to cut corners or save money, it won't be with the hitch.

If this was directed at me, I will explain myself. Since I haul commercially and only haul one brand, I have figured out what trailers do and do not benefit me by using WD. For example front kitchens are nose heavy and I use bars, trailers with multiple slides I use WD, and so on. As far as needed on all trailers that is not true, we have some ultra light TT's that have no need for them with a 3500. Also some people make things worse with WD, like setting the bars to tight.

I'll second that. Plenty of folks overloading 1/2 tons thinking that setup is the cure all. Seems like that guy is always passing me!

Have had 6 different trailers from 16ft to a 33ft 9,000 lbs with a number of different trucks in the last few years and a WD setup just ties it all together.Yes its important to set it up right but you will never handle as well with out a WD set up.Having 700-900 lbs hanging even on a dullies bumper will be felt.
Its just makes the whole rig handle as one unit. Can you tow with out it? Yes.But it will never work as well.

I use an equalizer hitch with our TT. Setup is simple and it is easy to use.

A few times I have lowered the bars to put more weight on the truck when trying to get out of some snowy/icy areas.

i pull my 27 foot snowmachine trailer with WD hitch all the time in the winter takes alot of the bounce out of the frost bumps and as long as you dont set them up too high it works just fine.

I have used WD with all my trailers over 18ft. TT or 5er is personal choice. I load the back of my truck with golf and fishing gear. I also am 6'5'' and like the head room as I walk around my king size front bed. Current trailer is over 35 ft and so I also am using a dual cam sway control driving through the mountains and windy prairies.
