Trailer wiring plug question ?????

Hello, I have an '06 Dodge 3500 and tow a 31' travel trailer. I'm thinking of converting the factory 7 pin bumper mounted plug from the flat pin to the round pin. Does anybody know of a source for a female round pin plug that will fit the bumper mounted recepticle ???? I know I can mount one if necessary but I'd just like to know if one is available since it would make a neat and clean job.

Thanks to all,

Roger

I don't understand the question.

The truck already has a round 7 pin connector. Your travel trailer has it too.

right Valv, it has but it has the flat spade type insert. The type with the seven round pin connectors is said to be more reliable and trouble free. I was looking to see if there is a replacement for mine that will fit the insert in the bumper to replace the original. I checked with Dodge and they say they do not carry them. So I'm looking to see if anyone else has tried this. I know how to mount one below but that is a last resort.

thanks,

Sorry, but I still don't understand.

Do you mean your truck did not come with the round 7 pic connector installed in the bumper but it had just a flat 4 pin hanging underneath?

Valv may never have seen what Polarlys is describing and might be picturing something like the 4 pole flat connectors used on light duty trailers with no brakes, except with 7 poles instead of 4. Not everyone knows that semi-trailers/trucks use a 7 pin round/round connector. Give him a break.

Valv.

When you look at the contact terminals in the stock receptacle they are flat rectangular 'spade' type contacts. What he is speaking of is a receptacle that looks and mounts exactally the same, but when you look at the contacts, they are round 'pin' types rather than flat 'spade' types.

The round pin type contact has a more 'consistent' contact, the spade type can widen through use and the contact area becomes questionable.

Polarlys.

You would possibly find the receptacle and plug you are looking for on semi-truck websites, if there is a well stocked RV supply in your area, they would be the most likely to stock them or have the ability to order them for you.

I think the confusion came in when he did not mention the 7 pole RV vs the 7 pole round truck connectors. Here is a link to what he can use it would be plug and play:

http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...3933_200303933

If it were me I would leave the factory "RV" 7 and Install the truck round 7 on the other side of the bumper with a splitter, then you would have the best of both..

The nice thing about the Round seven is both the truck and trailer has the female jack and all you do is do is plug in with a cord like this:

Better yet here is a new water proof system ,as we know road salts raise havoc on unprotected connections:
