Trailer dry weight estimate?

Does anyone have a rough idea of what this trailer might weigh? It is a 12 ton 25' dual tandem trailer. A similar Econoline was approx 5500 lbs. Is that probably right? It is for sale by a local excavator for $1500. It has electric brakes, but needs a tire. Would I be ok to pull this locally with my 94 2500? I would be using it to haul a mid 70s Oliver/White 1365 with loader and brush hog (about 5000lbs).

Thanks,
Nick

Weight should be fine....

Because of the pintle hook getting heavy on the truck rear axle, I'd probably go with air bags.

Thanks guys. Does 5500lbs sound about right for just the trailer?

5000-5500 sounds about right from what I can see. why not drag it down to the local scale and see for sure. Weigh the truck by itself then hook up the trailer , that way you will be able to see what it does to your drive axle weight .

We have a very similar trailer however our axles are not duals. Ours weighed in at 5400 on our truck scale at work

If the trailer is a 12,000 gross registration, then usually you will have 1/2 the weight in the trailer itself, in this case 6,000 lbs. It should have a vin tag that tells you both numbers. The price IS a steal, good find.

Thanks for the advice/info.
The vin tag got painted over the last time it was painted. It is a 12 ton, not 12,000 lbs. I am a little worried that it won't pull well with my truck. The tractor with loader and brush hog weighs about 5500-6000 lbs, so I would be around 12k. I know there are a bunch of people that pull more with 12 valves, but mine is a stock 94 automatic.

Nothing a simple little fuel plate and a timing advance can not fix!

Steal, my 20' single wheel double axle says it weights 4600 hundred lbs. I'm not sure about the 12 tons though.

I'm not sure if it might make sense to put on a 2 5/8" ball & receiver vs the pintle. The weight is key, so I would get it weighed. In theory, it should say on the title.
I bought mine, 18' to haul my MF 231 with bucket & box blade, about 7k, with water in the tires. My trailer is 3500, with (2) 6k axles.
My concern would be the tranny. Too much weight may kill it. You may want to get some opinions on how much weoght is viable. I think 10k is nominal, 12k the limit. I will leave that open to Gen 1 folks that know better.

He's got a 94. That's a 2nd gen. 94's got the lockup trans, didn't they? Nirion, Are you planning on towing the trailer/tractor combo all the time or only every once in a while? If it is every once in a while, I wouldn't worry about it. All the time I would look into an aftermarket trans cooler. Your GCWR should be about 16K so a 7k truck and 12k trailer would only put you over by 3k. Should be ok for the occasional tow.
