Towing w/ Quad XZT+

I am about to tow a boat & trailer weighing in at around 6,000 lbs around 1,500 miles and looking for advice. Would towing with the Quad XZT+ set for max mileage be acceptable or should it be turned off while towing? Thanks in advance for your opinions.

I have towed with the XZT and then I upgraded the XZT to the plus and downloaded the pressure only tune.

I am thinking that the milage tune adds timing for better milage. That should not be a problem for you towing 6k unless you are in the mountains.

It should be fine to tow with the xzt on the highest setting. I cant tell a difference with mine on the timing setting so I use the higest setting empty or towing.

With that little of weight you could tow in fuel/timing mode because it looks like your tranny is up to the task. I leave mine in timing mode and pretty much tow by my EGT gauge. I used to turn it off but saw that there really wasn't a difference in temps, etc so now I go for the mileage...which is negligible.

My XZT is set at the regular tow setting all the time. I use the egt gauge and my right foot to control things. My 5ver is almost 15k.

I love mine...especially the switch on the fly. It just depends on what tune you download for the power, but I've had the 3000 tune for about a year now with never a moments trouble. I've yet to see a mileage increase but I could really care about that anyway. For the money, its a great product.

I don't really know. It is a beta tune that Quad emailed me and I liked it so much I've never tried another one off the website. All I know is when you put it in fuel/timing mode, you need to hang on. Yesterday I was stuck behind a big rig on a 2 lane who was hauling a load of hay. He was really taking it easy, I guess so he wouldn't spill the load. Anyway, I was waiting for my chance to go around so I flipped the switch to fuel/timing and went from 55mph to almost 100 before I merged back in (and I didn't linger in the passing lane either). I had no idea she had it in her but I was impressed. Really didn't notice what my EGT's were because like I said earlier...I was hanging on.

Now back to towing. I've towed a couple of times in the fuel/timing mode but I had to watch my EGTs too much so I don't even bother with it anymore. My 100hp inj and timing only give plenty of power for just about anything I pull and EGTs never seem to be an issue. The fuel/timing is just for fun...for me anyway.
