I thought trailers over 10,000 lbs required a class A license? per Federal DOT.. how does CA get by allowing 15K? I'm not talking about a class A commercial license just a class A. just like a non commercial class B.
-just wondering

ps..if you must exceed the truck limits..but not the tire limits, but all means go slow and follow at a greater distance than you would empty. does you trailer have brakes? I hope so? do they work??

for some reason the mega cab use to have lower ratings across the board, not sure why this is but thats dodge for you. like said above, just dont go over tire and axle ratings, get the correct drivers license and you will be fine.

Thanks fella's for all the replies. The truck and trailer are actually getting registered in Oregon and me an Oregon license as of September. I'm trying to get everything I own registered in Oregon vice California. I'm lucky that my wife is in the military as well and she is still an Oregon resident.
I took your advice and looked at the tire ratings and i'm no where close to max for the rear axle. I would like to try and find some of the OEM 19.5 rims and tires that they put on the 4500 or 5500 Chassis Cabs.
I will say that the truck pulls like a champ. The exhaust brake is amazing and the trailor brake doesn't work to bad. It doesn't have quite the oomph my 05 with the Smarty Jr on tow had, but then again that trailor was about 12000 pounds. The new transmission with 4.10 gears is works awesome together.
All said and done I continue to tow like I always have. I get behind the big rigs and settle in on the 55 mph towing speed limit. Even with the Cali hill's I averaged 10.2 mpg towing the new trailor. Looking at the figures with gas/water/toys/gear in the new Cyclone it weighed near 16,000 pounds. I think thats a pretty respectable mpg considering the truck had less than 2000 miles on it and all the emissions stuff. Again thanks for the replies and tow safe!
