States are different when you haul with a trailer and if its for hire or profit then it becomes commercial and you fall under DOT Rules and Regs

Most states will look the other way if you only move one pallet of sod at a time.....check with your states DOT to see if theres a licencing issue and what size (loaded) trailer you can tow

If you are hauling it for hire, you had better be DOT legal. If you own the grass (sod, to keep it clean and legal) and can show you own it, you will probably be OK if you stay under 26,001 lbs. and stay in Texas. You go out of state, you're on your own. Best bet is to go to a weigh station and if they aren't busy they will answer your questions, either that, or go to where you get your drivers lic. and ask there.

If you are not doing it with a trailer you have no worries at all. But you are restricted to the 8800 pounds gross.

I will be pulling a goose and each pallet weighs around 800 and it would be very easy to overload my truck and I dont know how much weight my truck will be able to pull without overloading.

I've hauled sod before aint seen one that was fresh cut that wasn't under a 1,000 lbs. You should figure that they would weigh about 1200 to be safe. i once p/u some down south and they avg 2200 apiece. If your dragging a tandem dual Gn you are already in trouble that puts you into a class A liscense already. If you do haul it and get stopped by the DOT you might be able to convince them once that its your sod but everything is computerised now so when they stop you again they will know about the previos stop and what was said. Any other question you can pm me cause i deal with the DOT regs every day cuz i am a commercial hot shot

If he is over 26,000 it does not matter if the sod is the presidents, he needs a CDL. You did not say you were pulling a trailer so no one could answer you right. First you have to be plated for the weight that you will pull. Then you cannot exceed the capacity of the tires, they will be the limiting factor. I think that sod is exempt so you don't need authority, but you do need a usdot number.

If my trailer weighs in at 19,000 I would have to have a CDL because I would probably weigh over 26,000
