Thanks. That was by far the most informative piece of information I have read about the NV4500 transmission. I have read a few times where guys say that NV had fixed the issue around 2000 but I dont think so. It almost seems that the erratic failure rate we read about is all do to how good the gear fit the shaft before it left the factory.

My problem was like Rich's with the tst spooling up it worn out the cluster shaft bearing leading to failure of 2,3, and 4th. gears. I grossed between 28,000 and 32,000 lbs. for about 30,000 miles and the only failure was the cluster shaft bearing which caused numerous other problems. I bought the 5th gear nut fix from Dodge it was $45.
