Towing with a 12v CTD?

Re:Towing with a 12v CTD?
My 97 2500 5 speed has a #11 plate with 4" exhaust and we pull 10k 5er. On a 6-7% grade I can pull it at 55 mph,30lbs of boost,1100* EGT's. I could if I wanted to go faster but the road is not that great. I do have a Scotty II that does a great job of keeping the EGT's down so that I can run up the hill.
A couple of changes and your will run great!

Rick

You really need to weigh that trailer. I think you are seriously underestimating the weight of it. The reason I say this is because I have a new 20' Toy box by Tahoe, and loaded, it is right at 7000 lbs. I would think an older 28' Alpha toybox would weigh in the neighborhood of 9-10000lbs. I could be wrong, but go weigh it and see.
Chris
Re:Towing with a 12v CTD?
I did a lot of towing (34 ft fiver) with my old 92 ctd. It had a 5 speed so that helped but the only way to take the big hills was to speed up and then shift down as the rpm dropped. The motor only had 160 hp.
With the new HO (305) and 6 speed, I dont need to do anything because it has so much more power.
Rather than spend a lot of dollars on the old one I would save up for a new one. Just learn to approach those hills a little faster..
