Thought It Would Pull Better!

I get about 14 pulling a 24 ft flatbed gooseneck with a 79 ramcharger on it. the RC is sitting on 39" tires, so it ain't little.
Total weight is around 17-18k, depending on spare parts.
My egt's at 65 mph are right around 750-800 deg.
I towed one of Timinva's trucks on a trip (total weight around 19,500), and got about 12 mpg, almost all stop & go, 55 and under. EGT's were around 700-750.

Truck listed below.
Bought a 2006 22' Weekend Warrior Toyhauler (tag pull). The truck just doesn't pull like i thought it would. The trailer weighs 5000# empty, and probably not even 7000# loaded with toys and gear.
I am cruising at 65mph with EGT's close to 1000F, getting 9-10mpg. Is this common or do i have a dog for a truck? Mods listed below.
thanks,
Kelly

That sounds about right. Between 65 & 68 mph I can see 10 - 11 mpg if the head wind is not too strong.

In my 02 at 2200rpms pullin hard in the hills my egts never go above 1100 and just crusing small hills never go above 1000. 2200rpm in my truck is about 60-65mph and my temps never go above 900-1000 runnin down the interstate hills like I stated.

I agree with the comment about toyboxes being parachutes. My first box was a Weekend Warrior Superlite in the 7K range and my new 33' Rampage is easily in the 12K range and my mileage hasn't gone down much. It's the huge box you are dragging through the wind that kills the mileage. I wouldn't think buying a new truck is the answer to better mileage but to each their own.

Someone else may be able to verify, but I think a high profile camper shell on the truck may help the aerodynamics out significantly.... I know they arent the most convenient things to deal with, but it may work.... Some of them you can even put a quad under if you put in back first..... Just a thought...

My 05', 4x4, quad cab w/hauler bed & Cummins/ 6spd w/ Superchips in tow/performance hauling my 44' 12,000# gooseneck enclosed trailer gets around 12mpg (either empty or with around 3-4,000# cargo).Drove from Miami to NH and back, so had hills, flats, rain, etc - did my MPG checks "long hand" w/recorded fuel and calculator, not the RAM's computer. I weighed my truck/trailer emoty with full fuel and me in the truck - FYI my 20,000# equipment trailer weighs in @ 6,000#. Without the trailer I get around 20mpg in mixed driving in South Florida. Oh, and she'll accelerate going up a ramp with the trailer - love that Superchip !
