Thought It Would Pull Better!

Truck listed below.

Bought a 2006 22' Weekend Warrior Toyhauler (tag pull). The truck just doesn't pull like i thought it would. The trailer weighs 5000# empty, and probably not even 7000# loaded with toys and gear.

I am cruising at 65mph with EGT's close to 1000F, getting 9-10mpg. Is this common or do i have a dog for a truck? Mods listed below.

thanks,

Kelly

I can't offer help on your mileage ,but for a guide I get 12 to 13 mpg pulling a 11m lb trailer on fairly level trips. Around town I get close to 18mpg. Haven't checked it on a trip unloaded for awhile but got just over 20 sometime ago.
Maybe some others can offer advice. Got to use a light foot , this helps alot.

There is a misunderstanding here... By Empty they are refering to NOT pulling the trailer. I have a Toy Hauler (26' Playmor) and I get around 10-12 pulling it out to Little Sahara. You need to weigh the trailer and suprise yourself on how heavy The WW really is. The weight they have on the inside of the door is dry weight and does not include things like the A/C, Fridge, Oven... etc. If you plate say 5k you are more likey to be 6k dry.

that's the kicker, i routinely get over 20mpg! I know my truck is far from fine tuned, i just added the plate and exhaust, never adjusted anything!

Unloaded I get 18-18.5, pulling my toyhauler 23' Attitude over 10,000#, 11mpg. My truck is all stock. Your unloaded milage sounds a little off but your loaded milage sounds ok. And yes put you trailer on the scales you'll be suprised how much it actually weighs. Mine came in a couple thousand more than what I thought, that's why I ended up getting my new dodge. Titan couldn't handle it.

Ever had your timing checked? Might not be a bad idea, even kick it up some. Check for boost leaks too. Both are power and mileage robbers. Your tranny isn't doing you any favors either if it is a stocker. Half your power is converted to heat because it is so sloppy. Different TC and valve body would help that. Also check valve clearances, easy to do and saves fuel and adds power.

Alot of economy depends on driving conditions. Where where you going, uphill all the way? How fast were you going? How fast do you stop and start? Any chance the brakes could be set too tight on the TT?

I know you've just bought a new trailer, but check the brakes on the pup. You might be dragging one or two of them.

My 01 was a dog pulling our 5th wheel but I felt like that was because I had a 3.55 rear end. If I had known when I ordered the truck we would be buying a 5th wheel I would have ordered the 4.10. The 05 pulls it like a dream.

What kind of speeds are we talking here. My 2nd Gen used to do great under about 64 MPH, anything over that (1850 +RPM) it dropped like a rock. This was loaded about as heavy as you but more areodynamic.

Something to think about.
