Load the bed with about 1 ton of ice and snow...these things aways have better traction with weight in the back

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Mine is a 4x4 and drives good in the snow! Nothing extra in the bed, no special snow tires - just stock ones! You'll be fine! Ice is a different ballpark, everything sucks on ice! ;D

Tony

Re:Snow/Ice and Dually Tires

Turbob,
Snow won't be a big deal unless it's that wet heavy gop that comes down at or within a degree or two of freezing as that stuff turns to ice quite easily. That's usually the stuff we get here. What I like to do is to take the inner tires right off and run on just the outers, and I pack about 500 to 800 pounds of fairly fine gravel around. This adds weight for traction, but if for some bizzare reason I needed even more traction I could simply shovel some under the tires and away we go, maybe. I haven't gotten stuck yet with my W250 4X4 and some days we get 3 feet of snow in a day...
Hope this helps.
Re:Snow/Ice and Dually Tires

Hay Spitzair/// isn't it a bad thing to run on the outside wheels? I've had dualleys for years an when ever I had a flat I would always take off the flat tire an make sure that i was just running on the inside tire. Just the outside tire is to hard on the bearings in the hub, it wants to twist everything upwards. JUST MY 2 CENTS THOUGH
BOB

I Guess you got a point there Bob... I thought about that too when I looked at it today... I ran it all last winter like that and the previous owner did too for some time and so far it's still on it's original bearings. I'll bet that if you tried this with a ferd or a Chubby it'd be a lot worse

And plus, I'm not packing more weight than a bit of gravel in my box (maybe 800lb max.), the Bobcat and stuff goes on the trailer, but when I know I'm going to need to carry more weight I'll just stuff the inners on too...

I had 1400 pounds of John Deere weights in the back of mine and Neons and Civics were passing me up. That was a wet heavy snow though. Main thing is to be careful.

Re:Snow/Ice and Dually Tires

In the last month we have gotten about 2' of snow. This is unusual for St. Louis. I have still yet to put the truck in 4WD. I even had to pull the neighbor up the hill in his 2WD Powerslope. I didn't have the heart to tell him I pulled him up in 2WD !

Re:Snow/Ice and Dually Tires

I've always owned a 4x4 dually and I have never been stranded in snow, ice, or anything else. The only exception was the Chevy C4500 I just got rid of, I could get it stuck on wet grass, but of course it was just rear wheel drive I live out by Cmn not strkn's parents and the county isn't any to quick to get the roads plowed out by my house and I've had times when there was 6"+ of snow covering the roads and have never had an ounce of trouble, even though it is very hilly where I live. 8)
