FiverBob,

Sorry to hear about your EB failure, I'm sure I'd feel nakid with out it myself The first thing I noticed on my Jacobs set-up was the cheesy connector and hoses. so I trashed the lot and changed a fitting at the solenoid valve. Then ran some HD 3/8 hose the entire length, no worries now. The only concern I have on the air actuated units is the -40 temps we see here every winter.

Getting ready to install my factory jacobs ebrake i got as a kit from amazon. Hopfully things will go smooth, Just upgraded all the steering linkage to the heavy T-link style used on the 08's and the BIG mopar steering gear. Was fairly easy, except holding that fatso steering gear while trying to start a bolt by yourself was not fun. Hope the ebrake exsperiance is nicer to me. Looking forward to towing and not having to rely soley on the middle pedal.

The GPS goose chase. I have heard too many stories. Experienced a couple myself.

GPS is naturally 3D. I wonder if there's 3D mapping to go along with it. Sounds like a good application for the on board laptop or equivalent.

GPS systems for truckers have that ability to show road grades and display warnings.

Ron - - I don't know how your kit will come equipped, but if you have a black plastic tube to go from driver side across to passenger above the engine on the firewall, you will probably have a small rubber 90 degree to install onto that plastic tube right at the fire wall, driver side. That is the first culprit to split out. Leave it off and just run your hose from the pump up to the tube - - leave a little extra so you don't create a sharp corner. One lesson I learned on this mess - - check the vacuum hoses often and look for the start of splitting. Do not run the engine if you find a split - - even a couple minutes will fry the diaphragm.

I found some details on deceleration horsepower on the diesel engine that was quite interesting. On my truck, supposedly the braking horsepower is about 75HP. With the addition of the Jacobs Ebrake, it ups that horsepower to about 175 pending the RPM's. Higher the RPM, the more the HP. I try to peak mine out at no more than 25 - 2700. I find going higher does little to help, just winding out the engine more than I like to do. If it is not holding it steady, I slow down and drop it down another gear.

Like bob says. Most of downhill mountain driving is common sense and conservatism. Most of the time I downhill in 3rd under. The East end of Homestake with the train is 1st gear from the top.

It might be boring as watching grass grow, but I don't want to be the one to take a double up the escape ramp into the sand pit.
