Shocks.... Ideas or Info please
I have contacted several dealers and they tell me that no aftermarket shocks are available for my truck. They tell me that the diesel combined with the plow package is what makes the difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated

JB

They are on drugs!

Call up http://www.samsoffroad.com/samsoffroadsto/index.html to find out the correct answer. Why would a snow plow have anything to do with aftermarket shocks?

Get Racho 9000X for adjustability so when the snow plow goes on you can turn up the front shocks for better control.

Any shocks you get will be better than the factory ones. Those stealers are either way stupid or lying to you. I got mine at www.jack-it.com with my leveling kit.

I am checking with Sams Offroad. Their website and the info offered looks to be more in tune with what we need,

I called Ranch after recieving the wron shocks for the truck twice ( Front shocks 3 inches too short, Rear was 4 inches short, and steering was approx 6 inches too short). Rancho are the ones that made the statement that aftermarket dont exist. I called a dealer and was told that it would take two to four weeks to get. Noone seems to stck them. I guess that I must be the only one in the country that bought a diesel to actually put enough miles on that the shocks would wear out,,,

Thanks for the input.

If anyone has the exact setup that I do, Part numbers for what you are running would be real helpfull.

I went with the 9000X's and so far so good. I don't have the plow package, but everything else seems to be the same. Good luck with whatever shock you get...
Big dawg

JBirney,

You're right. Rancho does not offer an RS9000 that is rated for a snow plow package. I don't know if they offer any shocks that are rated for a plow package.

My theory is that it is because of the added weight of the plow and the added stress that plowing adds to front suspension components. Since Rancho shocks all come with a lifetime warranty, and Rancho realizes that the weight and stress of the plow could keep these shocks from lasting as long as they might without the plow, they list the shocks as not available for trucks with the plow package. That's just my theory.

Now, unless you're truck has a taller front suspension than a truck without the plow package, Rancho RS99197s will fit on the front just fine. That's the part number for a stock height OEM replacement RS9000x. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't work just fine on a plow truck. For the rear, you would need RS99198s.

If the snow plow prep package does come with a taller coil than stock (more than 1", then you will need to buy RS99221s for the front. This is an RS9000x that fits the OEM mounting position but is designed for a 2" front lift.

I think the RR99197s are probably your best bet though. They work with stock height or 1" of front lift. If the shock is too tall, it will bottom out frequently when the plow is installed.

As far as where to buy them, I had major problems with Sam's OffRoad. They seemed like nice enough guys, but I had so many problems trying to get them to ship the correct part numbers (even though I included the part numbers on my order), that I finally ended up purchasing the shocks somewhere else. Everybody makes mistakes, but I will not be buying from them again. I will leave it at that.

Hope that helps.

Re:Shocks.... Ideas or Info please
barracuda, I would suggest that you pay a few extra bucks and go for the 9000's and not the 5000's. The 9 position adjustable shocks make it possible to make the shock suit the load, driving conditions etc and therefore is very adaptable. I opted not to go for the compressor and just reach under and change them when I want to, which is not very often.

I agree with Mexstan. I recently installed the RS9000s and have run them on several vehicles in the past. I have also run 5000s, but the adjustability of the 9000s really helps to fine tune the ride. I don't run the compressor either.

There's a set of RS9000x front shocks on eBay right now. Brand New. No reserve. Looks like a good deal.
