RPM's Towing with Overdrive Off

Hey Guys,<br> What are your RPM's while towing? I pull a 6500lb camper plus gear. I have a 2002, shortbed, auto, 4X4 camper special. 8) With overdrive off, I run at 2700 RPM's. Is that about what your doing? The noise is deafening. Adios.

Re:RPM's Towing with Overdrive Off

With the 4.10's the max I run is 65 mph, which is pretty close to 3000 rpm if I recall. I read somewhere once that when used in marine applications these things run 3000 all day long. Keep in mind that I only run the overdrive off on steep grades, other wise it will pull real good in OD. This is pulling around 10,000# with lots of wind resistance

We went across the USA towing with out OD at about 62 mph, 2700 RPM. The noise in our cab was noticeable, but we could talk without shouting. After our DTT mods we tow on flat land in OD at 2000 RPM.

Try to keep your engine in the RPM sweet spot for best power and fuel MPG these motors make the best torque//horsepower in the 17-2100 RPM range at 2200 you start to defuel

Re:RPM's Towing with Overdrive Off

I had an 01 1-ton quad cab dually with an auto and 3.54 gears I pulled my 8-horse trailer with 8 horses in it and I ran with the overdrive locked out all the time and I would run it right up to 3g's for long amounts of time. That was the only way that truck could pull that kind of weight. Man glad I got rid of that sucker :
