Re:Riding in camper

Hay I put this on here to find out the states where it is legal to ride in the 5th wheel an only a 5th wheel an some of these guys on here think I would be committing murder for this but I often ride back there an sleep while my son drives (hes 27) an like a few said it is very comfy to sleep back there I can watch TV if I want, or what ever. Some say about how unsafe it is, well now this is just my opinion but if people constantly worry about dieing they should stay off the highways altogether cause the roads are not safe either an if your trailer is just kindiling wood to start with I would leave it at home an not take it anywhere at all.
NO I WOULD NOT PUT A YOUNG KID IN THERE BY THERE SELF BUT NOT BECAUSE OF SAFTEY,BUT BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT A YOUNG PERSON MIGHT DO. NOW IF I'M WITH THEM OR MY WIFE IS WITH THEM THEN TO ME THIS IS FINE. We do have audio an video from truck to trailer.
HAY DON'T KNOCK IT TILL YOU'VE TRIED IT THATS MY MOTTO.
Thanks Bob ???

Re:Riding in camper

Well I guess if it is legal in your state and area of travel that is your personal right. Statistics show that RV's without the ''rollover protection" structures like motor homes are supposed to have the rate of vehicle survival in a collision is extremely low. Add a biological being to that and the chances of survival for that being are even lower. The rate of disconnection of towed vehicles in an accident are also very high. When I gamble it is with pennies not life and those that replied back beyond legal information you requested were only looking out for the best interests of all including you sir. Please accept that some of us are fortunate enough to be involved in accident investigations that see and experience the emotional torture families witness because of what one feels should be okay versus what really happens when things go wrong. What's more frustrating is the ability to communicate these "Real Life" experiences for the benefit of others and then be dismissed lightly. Again it is your right and we will respect that, please respect our heart felt opinions. PK

Ok guys...
Lets keep the emotions out of this and stick with facts that will answer the original question.
Here is the original question again:

[quote author=Deezilla link=board=11;threadid=11962;start=0#113188 date=1047124450]
??? I know in some states people are allowed to ride in a 5TH wheel camper being towed as long as they have some type of comunication with the tow vehicle.
Does anybody know just which states this is, I know Pa. is one of them.
Thanks for any help Bob

Thanks

Yes Rich and I stated that if you have commercial plates you are governed by DOT and the federal law prohibits this practice. The law in the US is such that the stricter law is the law that is effective. Penn. can not pass a law that overrides the federal law. If your vehicle is not governed by federal law than the state law is your guide but all commercial vehicles are governed by federal law.

Re:Riding in camper

You guys have convinced me to never ride in a motorhome, especially an inexpensive class A, in a truck camper, or on a motorcycle again!! With no rollover protection I'd be toast in an accident.
