Who says a 4 ton truck with 6 wheels can't make a 90 degree turn at 35 mph? Check your math, I did it and Dennis can verify.
Lets see, 4 from 6 plus 90, carry the 35, yep, it works out. ;D
(taking off shoes to verify)
Shovelhead will get a kick out of this one. :

Puts too much stress on everything.
I don't really think I need a slider, but I would like to have an air ride hitch, but that's alot of coins I can but alot more toys for my truck for what one of them cost.
Billy

[hr]
2001 Quadcab, 2wd, Auto, weston step bars, Diablo power puck, 4" exhaust turbo out, straight thru muffler, and gauges coming soon. 2001, Terry EX 32ft. 5er.

Re:Pulling a 5'er with a Short Bed?
Never had the luxury of an air ride hitch! I currently tow a Cougar (and drive a 3/4 ton) very similar to Rattlin (I thought he posted pictures of my truck/fiver a couple months back :P). I have the "we'll give you the hitch, brake controller and installation for free" set up and haven't found myself in close spot (without trying it to see how far it would go) yet. The pin extension alone has been all I needed. If I'm unsure about the turn I get out and plan it carefully (probably due to lots of aircraft and tow vehicle experience) before attempting it. The slider is insurance - I don't have one and pray I don't need one. BTW: after having many "discussions" about backing with my wife as a spotter, I purchased the only "tool" I cant live without - 2 motorolla low powered walkie talkies - they work so much better than marshalling (hand signals) I can't believe I waited 5 years to buy them!

Re:Pulling a 5'er with a Short Bed?
I pull a 35' 5er with my SWB 2500 Clubcab. I have a slider, and I use it.

Campground? What's that?
I live in Colorado and I like to play with the ATV's. We have lots or places you can camp "primitive" in the National Forests, and I hate fees. The best spots are usually hard to get into. Anyhow, the slider works, and like somebody else said; when you need it, you REALLY need it. Also, with the slider slid back, you have more room between the truck and the trailer when you are back there trying to load the ice chest and stuff after the trailer is hooked up.

Some other things to consider:

With a SWB truck, you have the same motor, but less weight than a LWB truck. Ditto on 2500 v/s 3500 or single v/s dual rear wheels.

LWB truck comes with a slightly larger fuel tank. They also have the advantage when shopping for aftermarket "transfer tanks".

SWB truck will fit in my garage.

SWB will almost fit in a parking space.

Doolies look kewl!
