Pulled a mobile home today
It was only 40ft long but man that thing was heavy. It had all the furnishings in it and squatted my truck about 5 inches. The place where it was going was in the middle of the woods (deer camp) up a fresh cut out hill on very sandy ground. I only got stuck twice but we had a tractor behind the house to push me out. My tranny temps only got up to 280 degrees.
I might need a new trans now but at least I'll have some bragging rights.

Yes. It was an old one that was given to a family member and I just had to take it a couple of miles down some dirt roads and then to it's final resting place in the woods. It had a 2 5/16 hitch on it so I used my WD hitch for the TT. You definately wouldn't want to drag this thing down the interstate.

In 1963, I pulled a 35' mobile home 180 miles with a chevy 1/2 ton with a 6 cyl engine and 4 speed. Just didn't know any better and had to move my home so I could go to college and get a job.

I moved a 40 footer twice in 1975 with a 1/2 ton Ford with a 360 and "three on the tree." Distance was only about 5 miles each time on paved or good dirt roads. Definitely knew it was there and didn't want to go very far or fast. Not only that but I used the ball on the old step bumper, I bet the frame was bottomed out on the axle but I never looked.
I have many times overloaded a 1/2 ton, set the frames on the bumpers and drove on down the road without any knowledge of how stupid it was.
Ignorance is bliss!
As for legal, as long as the plates are valid and you have brakes you should be good to go as the old ones were only 8 feet wide, the same as current RVs.
