no towing power

just purchased 99 2500. shortly after purchased my 5th wheel (11K) when I put the two together I was disappointed. It pulls great off the line but when I hit OD around 60mph it falls on it's face and takes around two miles to get to 70mph. Took it to the shop injector pump checked out fine along with fuel pressures. would going to mod's help me with this? please help!!! Ive already put '4 inch exhaust (turbo back) and K&N air cleaner.

What is your RPM after you shift into overdrive. If it is under 1800 or so you are lugging the engine. If you feel it is really necessary to tow an RV that fast wait till about 65 before shifting up.

Put a Smarty on it. Also. Try locking out overdrive with the button on the shifter, and then when it gets to about 70 in 3rd, then hit the button, and let it shift. It doesent hurt it one bit to wrap the motor up some if you need to.

thank's for the input! i can't get to 70 when I'm out of OD I'm turnin it way up at around 60mph ( 4''11's in the rear ) once I climd up to 70mph I can kick it out of OD and it unlocks the TC without over revving for some unknown reason.(heading to Tranny shop next wee kto fix that particular problem)
Also when I reach 65-70mph it seems like it's struggling to keep it there any more input is appreciated!!! Once again thank's

It'a amazing how much little things like a Smarty, Edge EZ, Quad Box, etc, will make on our last century trucks.

If you are really wanting something cheap, and easy to put on, just buy an Edge EZ. Can be had for $250 to $300 used, and will add 65hp. Perfect for hauling, and shouldnt hurt your tranny, or raise EGT's much. They really make a big difference in how the truck drives.

I have the EZ and it makes a lot of difference, both loaded and unloaded. Even though EGT's are not much of a problem, investing in an EGT gage and ESPECIALLY a fuel pressure is a good idea. VP44's go bad, but general consensus says low fuel pressure is a real killer. Also, be prepared for some black smoke that is hard to control if you're in any kind of a hurry.

If you have oversize tires on the truck it will affect the rear ratio to the high side, meaning you loose towing ability. If your tires are stock size, try resetting the apps sensor to make sure the computer knows were the fuel pedal is. Next thing, check the turbo piping for a loose connection in the piping system at the clamps.

Go to http://dodgeram.org/ and look around there under reported problems for second generation trucks.

Its probabley something stupid.

Good Luck

Ditto here. Best $250 (ebay) I ever spent on my truck. Between that and the boost elbow it really woke it up, especially when towing at freeway speeds.

I bought my EZ off the "Bay" too ($125.00). Very nice increase in towing power and all around better drivability. Added the RV injectors and that was the icing on the cake.....except that it taxed the lockup clutch and I ended up installing a built trans.
