No juice from truck to trailer

I dont have any juice going to the power terminial on my 7 pin plug on my truck. I have checked all the fuses that are labeled trailer tow. I am not sure where to start checking next. Never had to look into a issue like this before. Any help or suggestions? Thanks Bret

Are you using a 12 volt test lights and testing with the key on. Once I reversed the test light by hooking the aligator clip to a jumper cable to positive and then checked each pin looking for a ground. Kinda of backwards but it will light if you find the ground.

Yes I am using a test light. My factory 7 pin plug has all the pins labeled so I know which pin is for what. I have no juice with key on or off, and no juice with test light grounded to the bumper or to the ground pin in plug. Thanks Bret

Sounds like maybe a broken wire. Have you done a continuity check from the fuse to the pin?

Silly question, but have you checked the fuses under the hood, not just the ones inside the door? There is one under the hood I remember that is not labeled for trailer tow. I'll see if I can find the one for sure in the wiring diagram.

Here is the diagram. I am pretty sure that the fuse # in the diagram should match the fuse labels on the cover under the hood. Should be #8 according to this. Also I see a relay in the wiring diagram too, but the power to the trailer should be hot all the time IIRC.

If you are getting other power to the trailer socket the 40A fuse under the hood is good, and you need to look for a broken wire someplace.

^^ All of the other circuits to the trailer are separate. The power feed for things like trailer battery and emergency brake battery are fed thru another fuse, the one listed in the pic above. You don't see any lights in the wiring above because they are on a different circuit.

Yes all fuses in PDC have juice running through them. Must be a broken wire huh? Bret

Or a bad connection at the plug in jack under the truck ,about where your feet would be , and near the front fender. See if you have juice going into the connector and out the other side going to the rear of the truck.

Do a search for PDB or PDC and you will find how to diagnose the problems and find out if your Power Distribution Box is bad.
I replaces 2 so far.

While it certainly could be different on a 2000, I am going by the weird behavior I discovered while troubleshooting a short in a trailer on my 96. When the 12v hot was shorted on the trailer it blew the 40A fuse under my hood. What made this so weird was that when that 40A fuse was blown all circuits going into the trailer were dead, except for the right turn signal. I would never have suspected behavior like this as I was looking everywhere else as I was trying to get the brakes to work (Prodigy still had power but wouldn't see the trailer brakes), suspecting that I had multiple poblems, the brakes and light wiring problems. Once I replaced the 40A fuse under the hood, after disconnecting the shorted 12v hot on the trailer, everything suddenly worked, brakes, lights, left signal. I don't know how the heck this is wired in the truck, but I have never seen such behavior in a circuit.

Yeah, on the 96 the 40 amp trailer fuse feeds power to the other circuits. That would make sense. On his, they are fed power from another circuit.

I had the similar problem there is a single blue wire taped to the stearing column way up in there that needed to be spliced to the blue wire on the harness. Spliced it in and it worked perfectly.
