Need new fiver hitch...What are you using?
My RBW hitch is slowly giving up the ghost. It came with the trailer in '99 and has been on 2 different trucks now. I never did like it, but we couldn't afford anything different until now. I have patched it up with the welder 2 or 3 times now, and the handle broke again tonight while moving our neighbor's trailer.
What are you guys pulling heavy fivers with? Our trailer weighs 16,800, so I need something heavy duty. The trailer is a triple axle, triple slide Travel Supreme Express. We are full-timers and move every 3-6 months so the hitch will get lots of use. Here are my priorities:
1..Heavy duty
2..Side to side pivot
3..A clean bed upon removal would be nice, but not a make or break point of sale.
4..Lockable pull handle.
I would also like to be able to actuate the pull handle from the ground without using the little 2-step ladder I have to climb on now.
I rarely haul stuff in the bed, but it would be nice to be able to get it under the trailer and out of the weather.
I am leaning toward the BW Turnover, but I realize there are other good hitches out there too. I have a long-bed truck so I don't need a slider.
Can I get a decent hitch for $800 range?
Sorry for the long post, but I appreciate your input.
Thanks.......Steve

I have no idea if this is what your looking for.
This is on the back of a members truck here named Scotty.
Its an Advanced Air Ride Hitch... I think it meets most of your requirements except the $800.00 part.

Get a TURNOVER BALL with the 5th Wheel companion. It may be a little spendy but meets all other aspects of your specs and leave a nice clean bed when NOT installed.
Draw-Tite also has their new Signature Series clean bed design for about $800 for parts.
Pesonally I like the PullRite PullRite towing solution due to the locking mechanism of the jaw. It completely surrounds the pin so there is no way it could just come open by itself

B&W turnoverball gooseneck with companion 5th wheel hitch. A full-function 18,000 lb rated double-pivot 5th wheel hitch when you need it and a clean bed when you don't. The 30,000 lb rated gooseneck hitch is just icing on the cake.

Thanks guys. I guess I need to find some dealers and get some hands-on with the hitches. I have read a lot of good about Pull-rite, Reese, and BW. It will probably be one of those three.
Thanks again......Steve

Reese 20k rocker, a bit over kill for my 28ft wilderness, but I have no complaints. If the wife and I ever go bigger I think I would opt for one of the air ride hitches, but my opinion for the smaller fifths they are not needed. Goodluck,Rick

My Reese 15k has gone from my '98, '01.5, '03 and now my '05. It'll be in my '06 or '07 too. I like it and the bed rails aren't a problem with the hitch out in my ever so humble opinion.
