I recently got a set of Firestone Transforce ATs, they are the tire that replaced the Steeltex which had excellent wear. We used them at the airport where I work on the pickups that do runway checks(run down the runway at 50mph and then nail the brakes and see what the on board decellerometer says, or if you go into a spin close the runway!). The Steeltexs were the only tire that stood up to the harsh braking and didn't peel off. The Transforce aren't quite as good as the Steeltex were but are still better than anything else we've tried. Might want to check them out. There are places on the net where consumers can rate tires, might want to find one and research it there. The BFG Commercials got mixed reviews.
Also beware of buying tires at Costso, they aren't the same as what you get at a tire shop, if you measure them you will actually find that the Costco tires have less tread depth to them. Hence the cheaper price.
If you don't see a lot of snow/mud consider the Tranforce HTs, less agressive tread, quieter and higher milage rating.
If you are not currently running the stock tire size your speedometer/odometer will be off and thus will throw of your milage calculations. So going back to the stock size will correct it but depending on whether your curerrent tires are bigger or smaller your milage readings could get better or worse. Uusally people go to a bigger tire which normally causes milage to go down but throws the odo off so they actually think thay are getting better milage. Unless you want a different tire size for some reason I'd go back to the stock size.

I have to call BS on Costco tires being inferior. Same tire as elsewhere. Very similar pricing as tirerack.com. As for tirerack the few reviews available are quite positive...as are the few reviews on transforce. Where did you see the mixed reviews?
I've been burned couple times on Firestone tires. Enough that they aren't even a consideration for me. Had a crappy set of Goodyears too (Wrangler R/T).

I would stick with the stock size. They work well, were speced for a reason.
Many recommend the Michelein for straight highway use, although anything outside of a litlle rain makes these not so good.
For AT use, BFG AT KO, Goodyear silent armor, some of the Cooper & ToYo
have all had some good reviews.
For Load range E, you are probably not going to get out the door for less than $130. Michelien will proably be around $200. You can get the BFG, GoodYeay for around $150, if you shop.
New tires on a 3500 can put a serious starin on the national debt!
good luck!
