Mirrors

OK People,

As I have proclaimed, I'm a new dodge owner and am pulling a 32' fifth wheel. Right now I have the standard electric mirrors on the truck, and am in dire need of a good set of towing mirrors. Dodge offers a set for $400.00 ??? and I read on one of these posts, that someone had bought a pair for $200.00. I have tried a pair of the **** mirrors and I can't see anything out of them (especially when backing up).
I would like to know of anyone using towing mirrors, what kind, what's best, prices, etc.

Thanks
Grampaw Bill [undecided] [undecided]

Re:Mirrors

Mopar accessories offers the big folding black ones that come on the new trucks and they will fit your truck. They sell for $245 for the whole kit. 8)

Re:Mirrors

Yes they will. The kit comes with a little plate to reinforce the inside of the door panel where they bolt up to the factory holes. There is an option of power and heat for $345 but I have never tried to put them on a older truck. I'd say if you have power and or heaters now it might work ??? I'll check in to that. The one's for $245 are manual and no heat. That is what the 02's and back had right from the factory but when the 03's came out they made those mirrors power and heat from the factory. I'll check it out and see if they will retrofit. Even if they won't just plug up if you have some technical ability you could probably get a wiring harness out of an 03 and make it work ???

Re:Mirrors

I had the powered mirrors on my truck, now I have the tow mirrors. I would REALLY be interested if the power/heated tow mirrors would fit my '02!! ;D

Tony

Re:Mirrors

If you got the switch + harness from an 03 it probably would work, heck the switch + harness that you have might just work ??? ??? ???

Re:Mirrors

Regarding '03 Power/ heated tow mirrors for '02 and earlier trucks. I have some directions somewhere about the swap. If memory serves correct, you must remove the mirror head from the arm to attach to your original tow mirrors. I would assume the mounts to the truck are different. I have not done this swap myself, but I am definately going to look into it.

I have the tow mirrors, but hate having to run around the truck to adjust em.

Re:Mirrors

Just like Fishin2Deep4U said, in order for a 2002 or older truck to get the power & heat features in those new tow mirrors, you'd have to build your own.
Though the styles are the same, the '03 mirrors are pwr/heated and the '01s-'02s are not. Because the '03 door designs are obviously different, you'd need the base from the '01-'02 with the mirror head of an '03. There was a pretty good post over on the TDR by someone who had done it.
Grampaw, when you said you had the ****, were you talking about the slip ons? **** has an awesome set of electrical tow mirrors for about $350.00.

They manually extend by about 4 inches and you retain electrical operation. I was told it took about an hour or so to swap them out. I'll be going with this style myself. The picture attached isn't my truck, but the guy told me he loved how stable the mirror was and how easy the swap was. You'll find this same style with a few different brand names.
