I've got as low as 12mpg pulling in the mountains on the east coast and as high as 14mpg running on the flat with no wind (plus lower speed limit). 5er is right at 10K and the front is more aerodynamic than some. I've been plenty happy.

I typically average around 11.something. Last trip I was pretty heavy (2 big quads, a bunch of gas and extra water), and got around 9 going over to east fort rock (gains elevation, lots of long steep grades), but I got over 12 on the way back. This is a 30' toy hauler, GVWR at 12k...

Gains or losses in elevation will make a big difference, as will road speed. Mid height ones (like mine) where you can't stand in the bedroom seem to get a bit better than the taller stand up bedroom ones.

Try around 13,000 if it's loaded. I just pulled a double slide 29' Wildcat to Utah and it weighed nearly 10,000 empty. A trip to the scales wouldn't hurt you. Your mileage sounds about right.

Just pulled from Wisconsin to Mammoth Cave, where I am sittin typing this tonight..... and I got 7mpg with the POS transmission (auto). I swear, that stupid trans will kick down and unlock the converter then hang there forever without locking up again! After about three minutes I step on the go pedal and get it a couple mph over the cruise setting then let off and the converter locks up again until the next hill.

It did seem to get a heck of a lot better on the third tank of fuel (this was a 500 mile trip remember.... 90 gallons of fuel) and I set the cruise at 73 and it won't unlock the converter because it would peg the tach if it did.

Nice engine, truck sucks.

By the way, the trailer is a 10,000 pound fiver, with 2000 on the pin.

Do you have the tranny set to tow/haul? I found that even when it kicks down, the TC will lockup as long as it doesn't get too slow. There should also be extra pressure to hold lockup when in T/H. When going up big hills w/the fifth wheel, I'll slow down a little and downshift using O/D lockout to keep the RPMs at about 2200 to 2300 just to keep EGTs down. I find that cruise control sucks for hilly terrain.

Yup.... Tow/Haul all the way. Still sucks. Need trans mods I think.

Towing alfalfa trailers last year with eight squares on them - with CTD I get 10 mpg and with the V10 I get 10 mpg. Advantage gasser with price NOW hovering at $2.59 and diesel at 3.19

OK, Here's the mileage from the next trip: We pulled around 350 miles in the North Texas hill country on mostly smaller highways and backroads. We had alot of stop and go's with the A/C on.

11 MPG - Hand calculated (13.1 on the worthless overhead readout)

I'm planning a trip to the scales to see what my rig really weighs but I'm pretty sure the 5er is about 10,000 lbs. loaded.

Thanks guys for all the posts,

JShriver

The low numbers are because your using Kalifornia ulwd(ultra left wing diesel). It tends to to migrate to the far left side of the tank and stay there and neither common sense nor the laws of physics can get it to budge from it's far left position.

Now that is funny....

I get about 9.5 to 11 depending on my speed and hills. I pull approx 11,000 lbs estimated. I am tickled with this since my 454 GMC never go above 6 pulling and usually nearer 5 at the same speeds. Maybe get more as my engine breaks in,, only have 3400 miles so far.
