Mega 3500 SWB and towing 5er level
I am looking at options for load/tow leveling. I have a 2008 Fuzion 362 that I am towing with a 2008 Megacab swb 3500 4x4. The problem I am having is the Mega is squatting really bad, I have only towed the Fuzion for the second time today. I had been towing the Fuzion with a 2500 Quad short bed, but sold that to my Father-in-law. Everything was working great with that truck .For refference the same dealer installed the rails for the slider hitch on both trucks.
The overloads are being used on the Mega, but not sure how much. With the 2500, I had suppersprings and it did not squat near like the Mega is. I think steering is being effected, it felt pretty loose. We were having wing gusts in excess of 45MPH today. I felt like I was all over the road. I pulled a few times in same conditions with the 2500 and today was much more "White Knuckle".
What are the options that people have tried? I assume it helped with the loose steering, bringing the front end down making it more level.
-Timbrins. Dealer says takes 2 hrs to intall @ $110/hr. Any issues with body roll? Looks like overloads may not be used.
-Airbags. Do they assist the stock spring pack and what brands to stay away from? Again what about body roll and contact with overlaods?
-What about "Torklift". They replace the stock bumpers on the overloads. Makes them 3-4 times as thick so the overloads are used quicker (in the add, the truck still looks to use airbags). Looks to my untrained eye that body roll might be less because the contact with the frame is in 2 spots on each side instead of just between the axle and frame.
Thanks
Karl

I've got the firestone ride rites on my truck and love them (lifetime warranty on bags). Just make sure you can control each bag individually, a friend almost rolled his loaded truck because the bags were tied together.
They are easy to install, if you go with the controller and on board compressor, it gets to be a little more work, not hard just more work and expense.

Your steering will be affected due to weight transfer.
I had same problem until I installed the Firestone Ride Rites.
I also had the equalizer hitch and sway control device, I cannot remember the actual name, but it helps control the sway of the trailer.
Good luck,
b

I may be wrong, but I think the pin weight on this trailer is little too heavy for a 3500Mega Cab SWR vehicle. I checked on line for the Keystone Fuzion weight ratings and this is what I found. The shipping weight is 13,052 Lbs, the trailer can carry 4948 Lbs, correct. The pin weight at 15 % is 2700 LBS and at 20 % it is 3600 LBS. The Mega cab is rated between 2600 LBS to 2770 LBS, depending on trim level for payload capacity. The max trailer weight allowed is 16,500 LBS.
This is why the front end is light on the tires. I would suggest that you run this tailer and truck across a ceritified scale to get all of your weights. To see if I am correct.
You may need a new truck to pull this trailer.
Jst my $0.02

Well a new truck is out of the question. I got this a few months ago and neither my wife nor my pocket book will allow a change. The weight rating on my 2500 short bed was less that what is on the Mega 3500 and I did not have the same problem, but as stated above I had supersprings, better tires and aftermarket shocks. Maybe the overall wheelbase is the difference.
I know there are Megas SWB pulling level with larger pin weights and most of them are 2500. This truck was hard to find, a 3500 Mega SWB. Dodge never had the option to build one on their site that I could find.
I'm not doggin' ya Jim W, I do appreciate your reply. I know I should pay more attention to the pin weight as well as total weight.
Stopping and going are not a problem with this truck, I just need the ride to be level. I still think some of the "wondering" on the road was due to the wind and the overloads should be doing more.
I have heard many good things about the Firestones, will have to look into those.
