a guy in missoula montana did it for me, ill dig up his info tonight, it adds some weight. my setup still utilized the leaf springs so my axles slid as a pair which worked really well for me, there were times though that i wished i could spread the axles.

Mopar as always you gave a great description but neglected 1 small detail GCW. If your Dodge 1 Ton is rated at a 20,000lb max GCW then a tongue load of 2000lbs on a tandem single trailer with 2-6000lb axles and a 7000lb payload would put you over the GCW. Therefore any thing with a load or axle loads/capacities beyind this would exceed the chassis certified DC approved Max GCW- warrantee worry worts take note a 3500 dually with a tri-axle loaded to max is over the GCW according to Dodge. By legal standards a tandem single+3500 dually with 235/R85/16 tires (3042lbs per tire) x 6 truck/4 trailer = 30420lbs gross also exceeds the GCW of the truck and the axles but is legal in some juristictions. Generally the max gross legal weight allowed is the lowest number in any one of the combinations between axles, tires + chassis specifications. However we both know that there are Dodges out there hauling loads far in excess of this legally by definition of juristictional regulation ie; 1 Ton dually+tri-axle dually trailer= approx. 42000lbs Gross Combined Weight and all legal. Ah Ha the plot thickens once more. PK

I seem to recall that the factory door tag on my kenworth was some odd combnination that factored out 12k on the steer axle 34k on the drivers gvwr was 46k on the sticker and 80k for gcwr but one more fact i was legal and licensed to haul 116k with additional axles. did it void the warranty or was it illegal? Not ever like PK said different jurisdictions dictate legal limits, manufacturer gcwr limits are not always as relivent.

Ya you are right, I didn't get into the whole Gross thing because that is just another can of worms. Just figured I'd steer him down the right road for max tongue weight, which is the same as your max payload actually.
PS I am one of them guy too tandem dual trailer, 31,000# gross. But none of my axles or tires or GVW's are over, so is it legal? Thats the $64,000 question, and every official you talk to will give you a different answer, clear as mud....
