Livestock haulin rates?

Hey guys sorry if this has been done but a friend of mine asked me to run 10 bulls down to tampa (about 460 miles) and he wants to know what I would charge. He is a friend so I will charge him less than the goin rate but what it the goin rate?

I would have thought 2 bucks was about right but the way he acted I think he wants 1.75. What do you fellas (and ladies) think?

He also wants me to haul a load of kill cows about 180 miles too.

Thanks for any advice.

Oh, and the bulls are pure bread angus and pretty price as he is one of the top breeders in Ga, so these are not some sorry ol scrub bulls.

I've been shipping GN loads for about 2.50-2.75 That's what I've seen the going rate around here. Diesel is 2.65-.75 here

well if hes your buddy, and you are just doing this to help him out, i would look at it this way...

Fuel: ~10 mpg for 460 miles=46 gallons of fuel...at $2.75 per gallon thats $126.50 one way...

~14 mpg unloaded=32.8 gallons coming home=$90.35

Total fuel usage=$216

460x$2=$920-$216=$704 profit
460x$1.75=$805-$216=$589 profit

Im not taking into account wear and tear...if they are mature bulls then you are looking at ~2000lbs per head so you will have a good load on ya. Just go slow and be safe...if anything your helping a friend out

I doubt they are 2k, prolly more like 15-1800. I havent seen em but I doubt they are 1 ton bulls.

I wont get 10mpg, I drive safe but when traffic permits I run pertty hard, nothin to even get pulled over for but if I got room I let her eat.

diesel will run from about 2.65-2.75 up to proly 3.20ish by the time I get into FL.

I figure $300 for fuel round trip and if it cost less even better. I think I will prolly do 1.85 and that will end up bein 851 plus the other short trip I could make a little money and its gettin about time for a new set of tires so this trip would be a good way to get all the "goody" out of em.

Thanks for the help guys.
