Interesting about 265/70/17 tires.

I am looking to get some 17" wheels and tires again because I don't think I'll be needing my Ricksons for a while.

I was going to get 245's because that is what my truck came with but... I never noticed that the 265/70/17 tires are rated to 3195#??? Is this new or has it always been like this? I thought it was more like 3042# or something?

My 245/70/17's are rated at 3000#. Doesn't seem like a huge difference but 195# per tire = 390# additional axle weight which translates to roughly 1500# additional towed weight completely within safety guidelines assuming everything else is OK.

I say the GAWR should be 6390#!

The Michelin and BFG website shows the 265/70/17 E rating at 3195lbs. Always been that way.

I was under the impression that all the 2500's came with the 265/70/17's. I know the 3500's SRW's with the 70's were 265's

I remember seeing a ST when I was looking at trucks. And it did come with smaller tires on the painted steel rims. I think it was still the Michelin LTX A/S like the 265/70/17s on the SLT and up.
I would say look for some 265/70/17s take offs on this site or off ebay.

And my BFG 315s have the same weight rating (3195) with only 50 psi max pressure.
