Insurance for RV ????

Beofe I call my insurance company (USAA) I want to get some opinions from you guys on insurance for my RV. I'm not usre of what the standards are and don't want to commit to what my inusrance company says I have to have if there are other options.
Here is what I have: 1984 34 foot Avion TT. I've been overhauling it. I just got it a couple months ago and have only take it out twice about 20 miles down the road.
1. I know that it should be covered for liability while attached to my truck - what about damage? or what if it is totalled in an accident?

2. Also I know that if it is at my house and not hooked to my truck any damage should be covered by my home policy correct?

3. Do I need to get a separate policy (like a car)? I would like to unhook and leave it at various places we go camping. How expensive is insurance? I would insure it for about 15,000 and only travel about 1500 miles per year on average.

1. Yes, your truck's insurance should cover liability while you are towing it.
2. Depends on your state. In mine, it would have to be in a garage to be covered, and even then, it depends on the policy. If its outside, H.O. won't cover it here (at least no company I've ever dealt with).
3. I've never put coverage on a trailer, so I don't know about this one. It would be seperate from your truck's policy though, but you should be able to save some money if your truck's ins. company also does trailers.

I have my toyhauler 5th wheel insured through USAA on it's own policy just like another vehicle would be. The comprehensive & collision totals at $310.32 per year with a $250 & $500 deductible respectively.
When it's hooked to the truck it rides on that liability. Anything that happens to it while parked at a campground or in the driveway would fall under the comprehensive coverage.
Hope this helps !

I got full replacement coverage on my SL3005 for $400 a year. This includes coverage for the motorcycles being towed. I think that is a small price to pay in case of any accident. I got it through progressive online.

I have State Farm, and I pay about $200 a year for my 27ft. 5er. They also cover the awning for damage, which some companys won't touch, because if you leave it down and a little wind comes, Boom $1000.

My HO policy doesn't cover ANYTHING inside the building. No tools, no furniture, nothing. Just the building itself. So read the policy before buying it! When we put ins. on the new house, we are going to try an out of state company to see if we can get better coverage.

Our 2006 Open Road has it’s own policy just like our trucks. Comp covers fire, storm, flood, theft etc. while it is parked. Collision covers it while towing. We also have $10,000.00 on the contents’ because we fulltime and carry more goodies than you would if you were just camping.

I have a 2005 28 ft. Salem Forest River bumper pull. My insurance is $120.00 a year. Deductible $500.00. I am thinking of getting some insurance quotes though due to Geico increased my insurance $300.00 a year because the new truck I bought is a 1 ton I have NEVER had any tickets, claims etc.
