Yea thumper all those are very true but what about replacement cost for the truck that is what really put the kibosh on me ,I figured you would need to get 1.50 per mile in order to make a good living at it and lets face it most of us don't want to be out there away from our wives for 30000 a year (well some of us might do it for 10$ a day when you through the wife in the mix) don't even figure what that 30000 equates to on an hourly basis (McDonalds anyone?)

yes sir ,,yes sir....most guys know how to drive real hard but that dont pay the bills. I f you look around you will find a huge turn over cause it takes most guys about 5 yrs to put the HOLE picture togather punn punn punn
If one could find a contract that actually paid...........but a 1.50 just looks good- to All the smoke clears,,those who think they are makin $ at this rate probly have some of that 5 yrs to go.
It is ez to bring on in 150,000 grand.......keeping it is the problem......like I said your lucky if ya have 30000 left

Hope he did not turn that number in to IRS, he will get audited.

Now if I could get farmer Joe to pay some money back... but he won't I'll have to go to court to give him his boat anchor back.

Lets see
Monday - Went from Sinton to Baytown $621 / 182 miles
Tuesday - Went from Corpus to Orange Grove Tx (+31) $192 / 67 miles
Wed - Loaded for Port Author
Thur. - Delivered Port Author $560 / 303 miles (contract rate)
Friday - Deliverd to Augiullares $242 / 130 miles
Loaded Friday for Monday
Thats $1615 + $165 fuel service charge = $1,780
I get 83% of line haul so I made $1,304 + $165 in fuel.
Spent around $220 in fuel. Insurance for truck and trailer is around $70 a week. Load insurance is billed back to the customer.
I cleared around $1179 in one week, that really was not that busy. That averaged out to (about) $25 an hour to do something I really enjoy. In a good 2 week stint I can run $4500 in line hauls. But its either Beef or Beans.
Off almost every weekend and spend almost every night in my own bed. Plus - If I dont want to go to work - I DONT!! I LOVE IT!!
Theres no money in this bussiness. Everyone needs to stay out of it. Just leave it all for me so I dont starve.

Im a not tring to be a wise guy so read this in a tone of frendly conversation..........
Do you have a DOT #?
Do you prorate your equipment?
In other words when it is time to retire that truck (5yrs) will you have enough.......
If you eng. drops out (dont tell me they don't) will you be able to cover it (10,000$)
If you do not have a DOT # are you prepared to be sued by a copetitor that will try to recoup his losses do to a boot leger?????

Hello Folks,
I, Myself am looking into doing Hotshot services. I have been investigating it fairly hard to find out what others have to say or have experianced in it, And I have come to the conclusion which is just like any job out there. Your income will be based on how much and how hard you work at it and how much you try to cut cost.
BigBlackDodge, I dont doubt that you have made the money in which you describe, I would have to say that if you are hauling out of some of the houston pipe yards you are gonna make a good chunk of change, It may not seem that way if your looking at the pump prices. Although in the Oklahoma territory there is plenty of drilling going on there.
Im in the market for a Dodge 3500 with a 5-speed or 6 (Depending on year model) and I have the trailer pretty much wrapped up. If you shop smart youll find good reliable deals.
Im open to any suggestions from anyone thats willing to give any help. Thanks in advance.

Chokedup, I've only been doing this about 6 months. I do it part time. I've found out this is a good way to find the weak points of your truck. If you pull heavy you will have to fix stuff. These trucks are great for pulling campers and boats but when you pull real weight you are going to have to beef them up. Like I said I've only been at it 6 months but it has cost me about ALOT to beef truck up. So far I figure I've made 15 to 20% clear money. Like Thumper said it looks real good on paper until you look at $1400 clutch, $300 wheel bearings, etc. not to mention fuel! I'm going to give it a little more time (see what else breaks!) if my truck holds up I might stick with it if not I'll write it up to experince (sic). Good luck!
