Honda Generators....2 2K's or 1 3K?

I want to purchase a Honda generator to be used in the field and also as a home backup.

I'm looking for opinions on whether to buy two EU2000's or 1 EU3000.

Also wondering whether to buy online or not in terms of warranty support etc.
I always try to buy locally but the difference is about $250. But if I should have a problem I want to know if I can have it service locally under warranty without any problems from purchasing online.

TIA

Bought a Yammy 3000 with surge booster which worked well for the ac in the race trailer...

Always been a Honda man but the Yamaha worked perfectly, extremely quiet and the electric start was a blessing for this old man...

I bought mine online with no problems, do a google search for generators, I got mine out of Michigan with no tax, A Yammy dealer has to work on a yammy product but the dealers out here are in love with MSRP, so I nervously bought online with no problems...

Hope this helps

If I were you, I'd at least give your local Honda guy a chance to meet the price. I prefer to buy local, too, since it would be a bad deal if the local shop wasn't there when you needed parts and service, and I'm willing to pay a little extra if I have to (but can't afford to pay a lot extra).

To your second question, I'd personally go with 2 EU2000's.

The price isn't that much different than a 3000, and it would give you the option of running only one when you need less than 2000 watts (like in the trailer, one 2000 will run everything I need as long as that doesn't include the air conditioner), and that saves fuel and noise.

Also, the EU3000 is heavy. It would be much easier to make 2 trips to move a pair of EU2000's. Actually, I think it would be easier to carry 2 EU2000's, since you can carry one in each hand easily.

Just my .02.

I have a honda 3000. It has been great. I dry camped all summer and used it all the time. In the eco setting it uses very little gas and is so quiet people comment about it all the time. I got it from wise sales on the net and saved 300 plus no sales tax. they were great to work with. I have never had any probs with it.

I agree on buying locally. In fact I am even willing to pay a little more (100-150) but the difference is more like $250 to $300 including shipping. I probably should give the local guy a chance to meet the price but there is a part of me that feels a little "cheap" by doing so.

I've been agonizing over the 2K vs. 3K decision since posting this, but I'm starting to lean with the double 2K based on having a backup in case one goes down and being easier to move around.

The only thing I'm wondering about is keeping track of maintenance, trying to balance out the running time, and just getting past the fact of "buying two of something" which at the end of the day might be the best solution just seems kind of....."wasteful".

Put a paper tag on each one. Every time you fill one with gas, put a slash mark on the paper tag. Try to keep the slash marks equal.

Most lawnmower shops carry a digital tach./hour meter that velcros to the engine. no wiring needed. they work off vibration or off the high tension lead.
(spark plug wire). change your oil as per the owners manuel.

I also have a yamaha 3000 with boost, which gives it 3500 watts for start up. If you check out the specs on the yamaha you will find that it it quiter then the honda 2000. It also comes with wheels and the honda doesn't.I've had a yamaha for 2 years and haven't had any problems with it. It will start my 15000btu AC and run the lights on my 5th wheel at the same time. I paid the same price for my Yamaha as they wanted for a Honda.

Every year I go to the biggest car show in the country to sell parts and(this is the truth) more people stop to ask me about my generator then to ask about my car parts They walk up to the generator and can't believe thats it running.

I would check out the Yamaha's before you buy a Honda.

i bought a yammy too! it's 3800kw constant surges to 4500 if needed,i run my air and microwave at the same time with no issues. i also like a tank gives me 8hours on normal and 10 on economy, when we bush camp i let it run all night but chain the crud outa it cause you dont even hear it. mine is a marine use though, just had to get an adapter for it and the booster cables it comes with are a bonus too.

I went with the 2 EU2000i's. They're easy to move around at about 50 lbs. each. They're also short enough that I can put them in the pickup bed with the tonneau cover closed. The EU3000i will sit above the pickup bed frame rails. My buddy has the EU3000i and that sucker is heavy. He has to leave it in the back of his truck all the time because it's a real pain to load/unload it. It weighs about 135lbs. The only advantage my buddy has (that I can see), is he's added the remote starter kit, so he can start his generator while sitting inside his trailer. I have to go outside and pull the starter cord. Despite this, I still much prefer my 2 EU2000i setup to his 1 EU3000i.

Another great feature of the Yamaha is that it hold 3gal of fuel and it will run over a half a day on a tank. The honda 2000 has a very small tank which is OK if you want to spend alot of time filling the tanks

The Yamaha's look nice, but the only one you can parallel is the 2400. At around $1,100 it will quite a bit more than the Honda option.

The portability and versatility of the 2000's, along with the Honda reputation are what will probably lead me to go with Honda.

Any opinions or info. on these?
