Honda Eu3000 Generator

I am considering upgrading my Honda eu2000 to a eu3000. I'm really interested in a remote start kit for the 3000. Has anybody had any experience with this setup? will the 3000 run the a/c in my 30' holiday trailer? do all eu3000 come with electric start?
Thanks

Have you looked at the option of using 2 eu2000 with sync cord to get 4000 watts , this is what I was looking at so it would be easier to lift / carry / store ?
Then only using 1 when you do not need the higher capacity .
Also I figured keep one in the truck with tools & one in trailer so there is always power , with either .

That option did cross my mind but I really would like the remote start option. and the eu2000 isn't compatible.

Also check to see what requirements / rating the AC is , most start at about 3500 watts , for load , but then they may take double for the compressor to start .
Not having enough excess amp/watts to start a motor can shorten the life of the motor .
Just from memory , I think that most RVs with AC , the smallest genset is about 4,500 watts .
At best you may need to shut everything else off to start AC , and I do not think you can get to everything , IE , the converter [ 120AC to 12v dc ] .

A 3000 should easily run your A/C

My Yamaha 2400 runs my 13.5 A/C without issue. Yamaha actually designed the 2400 to run RV A/C units.

The 2400 weighs a whole lot less than either Honda's or Yamaha's 3000.

Might be something to consider.

I run an EU3000 Honda in my Freightliner. It has the Sun remote start on a key fob. Best purchase I ever made. It has run most nights summer and winter for three years now. Change the oil and don't worry about it. Mine is right behind the cab, ie next to the sleeper, not too loud at all.

It runs a 14,000 btu Soleux air conditioner/heat pump. Only problems is once in a while it will take twice to start it after being off for a while and bounced around in the truck. When it does that it will pop the breaker on the generator and all you do is shut it off and start it again. Experts have told me that a start capacitor mod would cure that.

It also runs a 2000 watt inverter big microwave 27 inch hi def tv, and so on.

Go to sleep with it cool, heat wakes you up at 9 or 10, roll over hit the button, everything fires up, go back to sleep. It will spoil you and a 12 hour run is about $5.00 in gas. Light use, 3 1/2 gallons of gas, 19 hours, heavy use (max) 12 to 13 hours.

You do need to run mid grade gas in it to start properly.

Those Hondas are awesome generators. I run 2 EU 2000i's linked. Alot of money for them, but I won't even own another type of generator. The remote start on the EU 3000 sounds like a sweet deal!

I have had great luck with my old used (not sure what year it is) Honda EB 5000. Starts first pull everytime. But noisy as all get out.

If I had the funds, I'd go buy a EU6500 in a heartbeat!

Haulin,

Try a little Lucas Fuel Conditioner in your tank, it does wonders for a gas fired A/C that I have, as it has more down-time than run-time ..

That is not necessarily true... There are lots of people who bought those only to be disappointed it did not work. There are many factors to consider before making that statement. Alltitude, A/C size, Hard Start kits, etc.

While remote starting is a nice luxury, it would make better sense to get another eu2000i and parallel them. This is what I do for a fe reasons...

#1 Weight. The eu3000i is way to heavy to be lugging in and out of the truck for me.

#2 Use. if I need AC I parallel them, if I don't need AC I just run 1 unit and switch them around during trips.

If you are set on buying a bigger unit with remote start I would recommend getting the Yamaha 3000iSeB. It has the ability to use the battery to boost the output of the genset by 500watts for 10 seconds to get the AC compressor going. Better buy for your needs than the eu3000i.

I have an eu3000i which I transport on a carrier in front bumper w/gas cans. It is low enough not to impede cooling. With an RV 30 amp extension cord I can connect to my 25' Airstream will hooked up. Have had no problem running my a/c in the Airstream.

I pick the unit up and put it in the carrier and remove it. It is not light, and I wouldn't want to do it every day - but for a trip it is not an issue. Can't speak for every situation but for mine it works fine.

As an experiment I once tried starting my AC with just a single EU2000.

With econo throttle off, converter/charger and everything else off, it started and ran the generator without the AC voltage dipping at all.

I don't think the 30' unit had a very large air conditioner, and I wouldn't run it on a EU2000 for any length of time, but it was interesting it would start it without browning out.

Anyhoo... If the trailer has a generator compartment, I think I'd install one of the Honda RV generators, or an Onan/Cummins microquiet 4000, or something... I think Onan has models designed to mount under the body of an RV, if you don't have a compartment and have the clearance.

What size is your A/C? 13.5k or 15k BTUs?

x2 on this .... my Yamaha 2400i runs my a/c just fine, albeit it will run nothing else during start up and it does get hot.
In saying that I would like to try the Tandem Hondas for the reasons stated in the above post a couple back. But am happy with the Yammy.
