Hitch & Ball

What would be the best hitch to get for the receiver? 2" or 4" drop down? Also, what is the most common size hitch ball to use? I probably won't be using it often or at all for that matter. But just in case I do need it, i'll have one. I just want to have it mainly for a tailgater detterent and for people like the one yesterday when I came out of work and they were parked up under my hitch and my brand new white knight backup lights were sitting on their bumper. It would've been nice to see them drive right into the ball and crack their front end up. ;D Thanks for listening. Heading off to anger management class now.

Tony

Re:Hitch & Ball

If all you are looking for is a truck protector see if somebody has an old equalizer insert put a 2" ball on it if it doesn't have one. They are big mean and ugly and Mr. I don't care will keep his distance or pay with car parts. These can be found at garage sales for $10-20, my second choice is a 2" insert that has a pintle hitch on it for some reason they dont like that one much either. PK

Re:Hitch & Ball

Option #1: One of those 3-ball ball mounts. I used one with great success on my old Ford F350 2wd Dooley. It was rated for up to 10k on the 2 5/16" ball. Unfortunately, when I moved to the Dodge 4x4, the ball mount height was WAY to high. So it sits in the shed now.

Option #2: You could always buy one of those $150+ 3-axis adjustable ball mounts with 3 ball sizes on them....... kinda expensive for a "nice-to-have" but not use.

Option #3? I have a couple of ball mounts in the tool box - one for the boat and one for the motorcycle trailer. I think if you get one that puts the top of the ball "around" 18" (knee-high), it'll work for most trailers. That would be a little high for my utility/motorcycle trailer, and a little low for the boat. That would probably work good for the tail-gater deterrent.

I use a 5000 lb ballmount & 1 7/8" ball for my tail-gater deterrent; I think its about a 4" drop.

Get a Stinger that is trimmed tp a nice point...use a drop of about 4"...should penetrate even the toughest lil aluminum block in them lil cars.

I had a person [I won't tell enything about the person here but I think one could guess] back out of their parking spot, straight back and under my truck...right up to their back window and kept trying to back up. I was just getting in the truck. Security guard saw the whole thing.
Person gets out and is yelling at me in a foreign language and waving a fist at me. SHEESH
I look and my recvr took most of the hit but my spare was now sitting on the trunk. Didn't even look like my truck moved. Cops show up and tell this person with a translater to pull the car out...suddenly english is spoken and its all my fault. I told the cops since the spot in front of me was now open I am going to leave. They had all the info and said I could go. I did not have a lot of traction and I accidently tried to leave in third...PUFF PUFFFFFFFFF. 8)

Cops are grinnin' I started spinning the duals so I guess her car did lift some weight of the truck. So I put it into 4 wheel drive...the car dragged a bit until I shifted into 2nd and then I broke lose. I got out and looked and all I could see was Honda Tan metallic on the spare and recvr. Away I went.

Few weeks later a lawyer calls and says person has whiplash.
: I said; "Geez thats too bad, so do I from when the car hit me and backed under my truck 3ft. I have a few pix for ya sir."
Never heard back.

That lil car sure creased up bad. Too bad that person was ignorant and wanted to blame me for their mistake.

Those are great ideas and pics. My problem is that when I have mine on the truck, I sometimes forget about
it and crack my shin. You can imagine the words coming out of my mouth. $%$#, &*^%$, *&^$%#
