Your hitch weight will likely be around 2000 pounds.

Hitch wise, I'd suggest one that pivots 4 ways. If you have a short box I'd look for an auto slider. In a non-slider I'm really happy with b&w's turn over goose neck ball with the companion hitch.

Brake controller wise, once you've used a fluid pressure proportional you will never go back. I really like my brakesmart, and I've heard good things about maxbrake.

Wife just called from work at the post office and told me my Maxbreak is in. I will be installing it right away . My other controller is toast and a pain to adjust for town and highway driving. it will be nice not to have those two buttons to adjust again. Now I can take my fiver to the tire shop for new Michelin ltx . I can soon go camping

Tell us more about your truck. If its an auto, a trans temp gauge should be installed.

An exhaust pyrometer is also a must with mods, and nice on a stock truck.

In the mountains an exhaust brake is also really nice.

Tire wise I went with load range G. Overkill for the weight on them, but they run cool and never cause a problem.

I added rite ride air bags to mine to help level out the 5th wheel to the truck and it also helps in the 5th wheel not being so jerky as you pull it alone. I put the 20k Curt slider hitch in it too. Works great!

Also I have a 2500 5.9 with auto tranny and I've read a lot on here about a gorend transmission specifically beefed up to do the load.

We got our new 5th wheel in decemeber and it has only been towed from the shop to our house and back 2 times. We are trying to take it camping and are finding most camp areas we want to camp in have a limited anmout of sites available for a 40 footer....
