Unhappy Help with my onan generator

I have a 2-3 yr old onan microquiet 4000, which I have never had a problem with until this last trip. It will start right up, then immediately die. This happens several times (up to 15) before it will finally start and stay running. Then, it runs all night with no problems. It has plenty of new fuel, new oil, new spark plug, (as I am typing, I remembered the fuel filter wich I will change tonight) Any suggestions? It doesn't matter if it is warm or cold when I try to restart it. The light on the switch flashes 3 times (needs service). Any ideas would be helpful, is there a way to read a fault code using that light (besides needs service)?

Any help would be appreciated,

Dennis

I had starting trouble with anonan gen set that turned out to be the electric fuel pump. Don't know your set up as far as codes goes. FWIW I discontinued using onan anything since they had a stator I needed to repair the gen set unit and wouldn't sell it because of the date code and policy of planned obsolesence.[parts are available but forced to buy new!] They had 2 of them on the shelf in Elkhart, Ind.!
Strike 2 came when I scored a crank on a welding machine and needed a new one, this time ONan would sell me one, in stock , if I was willing to shell out a mere 3200 dollars for the 2 cylinder crankshaft!
My motor wasn't more than maybe 16 HP so of course I didn't buy then or was I interested ever again!

share the love...sty

koehlor is a good unit!

Check your fuel pump and the wiring to it.....I have the same Onan as you do and mine gave me troubles cold starting too I replace the electric fuel pump with a NAPA brand it worked good for a while....then it started to give me troubles again I found a bad wire connection for the fuel pump at the generator so I've rewired the fuel pump now.....and I added a cheater wire for the fuel pump a wire with a toggle switch that puts battery power to the pump straight from the battery "just in case it happens again"
