Question Heavy load/Rear leaf springs

I was filling the beast up the other day, and a guy pulls up at the next diesel pump. We both drive Dodge/Cummins trucks, so we start chatting. He says his truck is a 2002 as is mine. His is also a 2500. I look over at his, and it seems to have like 5-6 leafs in the rear spring pack, mine has 3 + 1 overload (short, thick, flat one at the bottom), and his truck sits higher in the rear end. I asked about the rear leafs on his, he said he just bought the truck a year or so ago (so got it used), but he thought those were the factory rear leafs, and said it had some kind of "off road" package. I've never heard of such a thing.

I have heard of the camper package that adds the rear stabilizer bar, and the overloads with the perches mounted on the frame (which mine doesn't have but I wish it did). This was not what he had. I'm thinking the previous owner may have changed or re-arched the rear leafs????

What gives? Is there such a thing as an off road pkg, or is this guy full of it?
Anyone else out there with a 2002 2500 with more than 3 + 1 rear leafs without the "camper package"? I'll attach a pic of mine, does your 2002 2500 have rear leafs like these??

Look down at the bottom of this page, the last thread is called "What makes a 2500 HD". Its from earlier this week, should answer all your questions.

Shouldn't a 4WD have more than just 3+1 in the main pack?

According to this site: http://dodgeram.info/2001/index.html , they took away one rear leaf in 2001 model year. I have read in other places that the 2001.5 and 2002 model year leafs are wider than the previous ones. I should have looked at the other guys truck to see if the springs were narrower than mine.

That's kinda why I want someone with a 2002 to have a look at their springs.

Timberman - let me know how you like the Timbrens - I am considering them or the Ride Rite setup - are you getting rear only ?
