Question Hay haulin

Im fixing to move 2000 square bails at 65 lbs a peice i figure with my trailer i can probably haul 250 easily in a trip. Its gonna be a 7 hr trip loaded with the hay drivin from norntern Oklahoma back down to the Dallas area. Is there really much i need to be concerned about haulin this distance and making so many trips back and forth. Or just hook and go and dont look back. Is there anything to look for and check as far as the truck goes and what not, Its got about 150000 or so miles on it.Thanks for all the help

is there no hay closer to home?? you need to figure in your time and your fuel costs and is it really cheaper to haul hay that far? you may want to get a bigger trailer to minimize your trips. just dont go over your weight limit.

Not sure what kind of trailer you're running, but we haul like that all the time on 20-24k dual tandem axle trailers. Make sure you're stacked correctly and strapped down well. May want to get some tarps to cover the front and top of the load to prevent loss, especially if you run into some weather.

It's definitely not cheap hauling right now, but I know how the hay situation is and you gotta do what you gotta do.

Tarp it and tarp it good.

Even a slight sprinkle, travelling at fifty MPH, will soak all the way through, making your $4/bale hay worth nothing in a few minutes.

We load 360 squares on a 32' with deck-over-neck.

The way we tie down is to tie a long loop of rope to each front corner, then a long loop to each rear corner, then take a come-a-long on top-center of the load and hook it to the center of both rope loops.

Draw the loops tight with the come-a-long.

Then, we strap across the first, last, and center books/stacks/whatever you call them.

You can drive as fast as you want, loaded like this.

If the load gets too heavy, you can stop off in Sadelia and drop about 50 bales at my place.

I haul 20 5x4 Round Bales on my 32 tandem float with no problem. Only reccommendation I have is to make sure your tires are in good shape. I buy my trailers with Radials because they do not build up near as much heat. Bias tires are tough when you get a heavy ply, but our Texas roads get HOT, and it does not take much weight & heat to cause a bias tire to get knots on them and blow.
