Yes...truck is reg cab - no back seat. Would like to go to Dumont, but need a trailer to do it!!

Actually, Amargosa seems more appealing, for some reason. I can get there without the traffic issues. Folks coming in from CA choose Dumont for its location and don't want to bother with Amargosa, which is OK by me.

Also, Dumont gets to be "East L.A." during certain holidays, requires a California ORV tag, and isn't very "novice friendly" (gotta think of the wife and kids!).

But yes, most of my travel will be intrastate (or extremely local) and will be limited to recreational spots here in the remote desert or other areas for hunting season.

I've noticed a lot of other Dodge trucks on the road (and some lighter duty brands) pulling stuff that's larger than what I'd like to get. It would appear to me that not very many folks put as much thought into this kind of stuff as we CTD owners do.

I just want to be safe.

I'd really like to make the enhancements to my truck that you have suggested. Would you know of anyone local that specializes in that kind of stuff? I would rather have a professional do the motor than take the chance of fowling it up myself.

Thanks!

I think some of the pin wieght estimates that have been thrown around are a bit on the high side.
You stated that this 5er will be a toy hauler.., this would more than likely mean that when you load your toys in the rear of the trailer (behind the axles) that you could be either reducing pin wieght or only increasing by a very small margin.

I own a very heavy 5er, 04' TK3 Mobile Suite by Doubletree, it tips the scales at 15,836. the pin wieght is 3,100 lbs.
Bottom line is your pin wieght will more than likely be far less especialy with the trailer empty. And when loaded as I stated above, because of where on the trailer you are loading the weight it should not effect the pin weight much.

What are you loading in the toy hauler? I think Mike is probably right. I like dumont, but they charge 20$ a trip now.....Ive never registered my bikes in CA, never been hastled either, but Im not exactly an attention.

My wife wants to go to armagosa, I ve been , just not in awhile.

The biggest thing to consider to be safe.......tires......a load and the summer heat......can kill a tire.

OK...Tires will be checked.

What about the other mods? Do you know anyone in LV that does the "trick" stuff?

I had considered guages in the past, but just never got around to getting the stuff done. And who wouldn't mind having a little more power!!

Thanks!

BTW...I'm loading a HONDA ATC250es (in PRISTINE condition - but that's another thread!) and a new HONDA Rancher in the back. Dry weight on each is around 400 lbs. Both will sit just behind the last axle on the 5er.

I d guess a reg cab to weight about 6600.....that gives you alittle back on weight you can add. Go down to the truck stop or by a rock store and weight your truck.

How long is the 5th wheel? At 10500 empty Im guessing pretty big? Or really loaded with nice features.

Sounds like you might see 12500 loaded....on the outside, probably less if your careful. If you put 2000 lbs on the truck and its 6600 empty your still looking pretty good. You need to check or get a very high load rated tire for the truck though and run them fairly high in air pressure esspecially in the summer.

The 5er is 36' long. Fiberglass outside and I now own it!!

I have an appointment for Friday to get some work done on the truck (oil change, brake job on all 4, tranny check).

I sure would like to know where I could take it to get some "custom" stuff done to it. I wouldn't mind getting a little more power out of her and boost, egt and trans temp guage would be nice to have.

Anybody know anyone in Las Vegas that is any good at this kind of work?

Thanks!
