GPS with back up camera ability
Garmin acted like i was crazy. Thier best option was the
$450 dezl 560
they said that is the only one that has a decent video input.
the Garmin Rep really acted MAD that I had the audacity to think that it would be common sense to have a GPS that doubled as a Back Up camera.
most GPS are $100, and most Backup Cameras are $100

I got one from Walmart a couple years back. Don't remember the brand, but I ended up taking it back because it was junk. The camera worked good, but the gps would freeze up and do weird things. I looked for a different one afterwards, but didn't come up with anything.

OK, this might not seem related but:
Where does the passenger air bag deploy from?
I want to mount things like a back up cam and/or perhaps a laptop or tablet computer on that huge space above the glove compartment. I just wondered if this would interfere with the air bag in any way. Seems like wasted space, that the wife could be using to do some on the fly navigating when we are going cross country. Thanks.

just leave her barefoot in the kitchen!!
FWIW, you need to tell us what year it is.
I would think it would be safer to put in a laptop mount if she wants something to do on long trips.
I found a link to another GARMIN that accepts a camera input, but it's $389

been looking at that.
looks cheap & second rate, LMK what you think
it also does not tell what software it uses, it would "assume" it is just a re-branded tom tom or Garmin, but since it don't say, i don't know, and if i don't know...i don't buy...

Not sure, I got some other stuff from them and it works good (inspection camera and dvd headrests) Everything looks cheap and rinky dink nowadays though IMO. On the other,

I already have one crappy GPS unit, that is really a pain to operate
how does yours compare to TomTom or Garmin?
and they answered
Hi,
Our system is compatable with TomTom or Garmin

magellan 1700 - seven inch screen
this looks good, the unit came out in 2009 @ $250, and is on sale for $150 now.
you need a cable from a mini-cam or laptop DVD player, with the 4 connectors, it looks like.

I was running a 1700 a few months ago. It's BIG for sure. After a while I thought it was too big and ended up going to a Pioneer headunit. I have another regualr Garmin that I use when needed. The 1700 had a small quirk, when you switch to reverse it automatically detects the video input and changes over, problem is when it changes back it goes to the main menu no matter what was on it before. Requires you to manually go back to what you had on before. PM me if you want a pic of how I had it mounted on the dash.
