I get from 11-14 mpg towing and 20+mpg empty. Towing I run between 60-65. Empty I run 65. Granted I have a relatively light load when towing, The TT is an Avion and it is a bit rounded for aerodynamics. The truck has about 5K miles on it. I would expect the mileage to perhaps improve by the time I get 20K plus miles on the truck. Drove it from Ohio to the Gulf of Mexico and when the torque converter locked up it never unlocked except for enterring and exiting the Interstate. Much better than towing with my 2002 4.7 gas 1500 Quad Cab .

I just hauled a 10,000lb load of hay 250 mi on a flatbed a low profile heavy load. I got 18mpg empty (up hill). 15mpg (loaded the down hill way) My 3horse gooseneck does worse and is lighter (7,000-8000lbs) but grabs a lot more air! Wind resistance hurts more than weight. I noticed you have 3.15 tires that might throw things off a bit ?!?

what i have noticed after my 600 mile round trip with the trailer is i now get 1 mpg better empty. dont know what happened but it just got better after the trip. it was the first long haul with a heavy load. Although some might not consider it a heavy load, it was the heaviest i have pulled since i got the truck

You may be starting to break it in!....some say 10,000mi.....but you might have to put a good load on it to finish it off....?..! Sounds good doesn't it?

Guys,

I just towed 10000 lbs worth of boat and trailer from Ft. Lauderdale to NC with the cruise control set on 70... I averaged 11.4 mpg.

I couldnt believe how well the truck handled that load!

8.5 average on flat Florida hwy 65-70mph. 7.2 in the hilly Florida panhandle 65-70mph. You should feel great!
With my last two Cummins powered Rams I got 10.5 average towing the same 5th wheel over the same roads. Worst was 9.6 against a headwind in the panhandle and best 12.5 running 58mph. I couldn't stay awake so I bumped it back up to 68mph. Maybe when I'm older!
